Port of Mokha
Port of Mokha aims to bridge coffee lovers with the inner world of Yemeni coffee farmers through thei
When I started began working in Yemen in 2012, the primary goal was to produce exquisite Yemeni coffee. At that time, high-grade coffee was on very few people's radar in Yemen. And the very few coffees that managed to reach specialty grade from Yemen were on the absolute lowest end of what’s technically considered ‘specialty coffee’. To put it simply, Yemen, at that time, wasn’t winning any coffee awards. But, I believed that if farmers were better trained, Yemen could compete at the highest level. And I was right. In 2017, three years after beginning my work, the coffee review awarded one of our lots—roasted by the man who would become our head roaster, Tamas Christman—the highest score they had ever given a coffee; 97 points. Yemen had now literally produced the best coffee in the world. So what was next?
I wanted to create a product that showcased and honored coffee in a more deep and profound way. I also wanted to show how much flavor diversity can exist within one origin—something well known among coffee professionals but less known to everyday coffee lovers. Thus, the Yemen Trilogy was born. An elegantly designed three-box set of incredible coffees. The outer box, wrapped in textured slate paper and bearing a debossed copper stamp of our logo and boat insignia, opens to the front flap Inside revealing a quote of my own:
"Coffee is about people. It’s about community and how we sustain and support one another. This coffee from Yemen’s highlands has crossed borders, cultures, political hardships, and centuries of cultivation to find its way to you. We sincerely hope you enjoy."
Inside, three square boxes, blue, salmon, and green, textured with waves hold each, 4 oz. of beautiful coffee from the towering mountain terraces of my beloved Yemen. The design process was long, painstaking, and expensive but most definitely worth it.

I have been fortunate these last nine years to work in this industry and even more fortunate to have been given the honor to represent my motherland of Yemen. My greatest intention during all of this was to showcase Yemen’s unique and exceptional coffees with as much of the world as I could. Today marks the birth of a new movement Yemen coffee and begins the newest chapter in my coffee journey.
Since launching our roasted Port of Mokha products five years ago, we’ve continued selling green beans to roasters and importers across the globe both throughout the year and during our yearly auctions. During that time we’ve successfully penetrated every major specialty coffee market in the world, been honored with awards like the number one coffee in world, two 97 point coffee reviews, and last year the number one Yemen coffee by the coffee review with a 96 points. We’ve been featured in the world’s most prestigious publications and even made two appearances in questions on Jeopardy.
Through all of this we’ve continued hard at work streamlining our value chain, training farmers, and building specialty coffee infrastructure and staff in Yemen. With all of that, I’m beyond excited to announce the new green coffee wing of our company; Arabia Felix by Port of Mokha.
Arabia Felix will now operate as a one stop hub for the best Yemen coffees in the world. Whether you’re looking for rare nano lots with exotic processing and tropical flavors to dazzle your customer’s taste buds, or a more classic entry level Yemeni; full bodied, with caramel, dried fruit and that classical Yemen mocha flavor—we will be able to provide the very best experience that’s reliable, consistent and delicious.
The Yemen coffee renaissance has officially begun.
See you there.

To all the wonderful Dads out there. Thank you for everything you do.
Whether you’re fortunate enough to be celebrating Father’s Day in-person or sending Dad your best wishes from afar, we have ideas for gifts that work in any situation.
We have gift bundles designed for Dad, both featuring a copy of the New York Times Best-Selling novel, The Monk of Mokha, signed by Port of Mokha CEO and Founder, Mokhtar Alkhanshali.
While he’s reading, he can try three of our signature varietals featured in the Trilogy Box, or dive into the tropical, sweet taste of coffee from Al Durrar. Take your pick.
Yemen’s high elevation makes it a difficult place to source coffee from. It also makes the trip well worth it.
We also agree, there are so many incredible stories in these cups, if we only knew.
Thank you

Repost:
Where does your coffee come from? What life has it lived? How much beauty and toil, mountains and seas, peace and even wars it bears in its unspoken memory, from the first warmth of sunshine to this intoxicating liquid in your cup. Whose are the hands it has touched? All too rare are these stories that get told. And it’s even rarer when the story is, from start to finish, carried through by a single human being.
The story of is an extraordinary one. It was founded by Mokhtar Al-Khanshali, a Yemeni American who, in his younger years, could never have imagined that someday, he would be fleeing the Yemen Civil War in a small fishing boat across the Red Sea on an exodus of great uncertainties and danger. And less did he know, that he would be doing it for the sake of coffee.
Because traveling with him were mere two suitcases full of coffee beans. Beans that were farmed by communities he had closely worked with for the past several years by introducing them to modern and organic agricultural techniques and transforming their livelihood with better wages and gender equality. Beans that had since that day escaped from their own fate of obscurity and later went on to win some of the highest scores by the SCAA in Seattle. But as Mokhtar was waiting by the Port of Mokha, the world's first coffee trading port, where his little escape boat was about to cast off, he didn't know where it was going to lead. He just knew that the coffee beans in his suitcase were special. And that their story needed to be told.
I think you'd agree. Packaged individually are three distinct, single origin coffee beans in 's trilogy box. You don't need to be a coffee connoisseur to be captivated by the multi-layers of complexity and sincerity in these brews. What a journey. And It’s a privilege to be part of the finishing notes.
