Judy Levit Paintings
Abstract painter exploring an internal landscape inspired by nature/no NFT’s please.
I have been working on a group of 8 x 8“ wood panels using some darker colors than my usual summer pink and orange.
I know there is a black shape right in the middle of this painting and you’re not supposed to do that because it can be like a bull’s-eye that takes the attention away from everything else. Would love to know if that black shape is keeping you from looking around? If you want to weigh in, you could say yes or no below. I’d be interested to know what you think. Thanks!

The wonderful Pint Size 2 exhibit at Transmission Gallery will be closing this Saturday, June 8. Sculpture, painting and collage, it’s all there. Here are a few examples. The wrapped branch sculpture in the top right is by the artist Lorrie Fink pictured in the next photo. Hopefully you can read the ID labels for the other artists. Mine is the last photo.
Where my paintings start out and where they end is a great journey. I just try to follow along until it feels right. With this one, there is a lot of collage that I had to paint over to make the composition work. I find there so often is that moment where you have to let go of a little part or many parts! that you love in order to make the whole work. And even then, it probably doesn’t feel perfect, it just feels good enough to let go. Would love to know your experience of this process.
Playing with collage. I’m letting my paint palletes dry and then using them the next day as collage material. I use Blick tracing paper, one of the many things I learned from Nicholas Wilton, as my pallete so it’s easy to glue the pieces down because they’re like tissue paper. I like the unexpected shapes and colors. Have you tried this?

One of our baby owls in the process of fledging! At this point, they hang around the nest, the owl box, and still rely on their parents for food for awhile longer. What a privilege and thrill to observe this and the owls are so beautiful!
First time growing radishes!!🥬These are supposed to be watermelon radishes but it looks like there’s a red one in there! How do you like eating radish greens in salads? Please take the pole or leave a comment below. Would love to know your experience.
This is something I posted a few days ago and decided to revise. I wonder which one you like better?

I’m delighted that my painting, Winters Edge 3, 6 x 6” acrylic on wood panel, will be included in the upcoming exhibit Pint Size 2 at Transmission Gallery. The opening will be this Saturday, April 27, 1-4 pm. This is a group show including many wonderful artists. I hope to see you there!

Small acrylic painting on paper. Sometimes titles just come to me, usually after I’m finished. This one reminds me of being underwater….
Do you ever have to stop painting, but not feel ready and you wanna do just one more little thing? Doing these very quick paintings on paper, sometimes with my eyes closed, or with my left hand, is so satisfying!

These shapes remind me of flowers. So happy that spring is coming! I love the fog, the moody blues, grays and dark greens of winter, but cannot resist the flowers of spring.

This is a drawing of a woman I made up. Somehow, she ended up looking a little like someone most of us know. Can you guess who?
Happy Valentines Day to all💕!

Despite the red and shock of blue, this painting reminds me of a tide pool. What are all those little shapes under the water? Are they anemones? Suddenly I miss being near the ocean.

It seems that everyone has some pain, grief, or worry in their lives. It is part of being human. There is also so much beauty in life.
I didn’t know when I was little that I would love to spend hours and hours painting. I’m so grateful now to have found this way of experiencing play and joy and to be able to share it.
Looking through recent collages and found this. I remember I started this by pressing my leftover paint onto the paper which creates beautiful shapes without my hand in there at all. Then I added and subtracted a few things. What are other ways people use to make “ accidental” marks?

A small painting from last year, acrylic and oil pastel on watercolor paper.

I just love black, white, shades of gray + a touch of color. Pondering the possible stories one could tell about this experimental painting.
Playing with faces, drawing, then cutting them up and rearranging. This is very relaxing and fun.

This is the current state of this painting, but if you swipe left twice, you can see two other versions. I like things about each one of them, but maybe like the last one best. So many decisions to make! Do you have a preference?
I've just reached 900 followers! Thank you for continuing support. I could never have made it without each one of you. I appreciate you and thank you so much for your interest in my work! Wishing us all peace in the coming year.🙏🌝🌻🪲❣️
I love doing these small paintings on paper. They are a great way to practice and learn. Right now I’m experimenting with using big gestures and trying to simplify.
NOT to be missed music! I went to hear my son and had the privilege of hearing all these exciting musicians in the Ele Howell quartet. Check out my story today for the names and please share if you know someone who would be interested. I’m hoping they play together again!
This painting is the result of pressing my leftover paint onto a piece of paper over the course of several days, then a lot of editing and voilà. I like it because it feels a little unexpected.

We have a beautiful visitor to our owl box! Just as we were preparing to clean the box for the spring in late October, we discovered this female and her partner! It’s uncommon but happens that barn owls have a second brood in the fall so we’re looking out for eggs. I will keep you posted. And please share if you know someone who is fascinated by owls as I am.
Playing with shapes and one of my favorites, pink.

My very special visitors to the Bolinas Museum opening of Hardly Strictly Mini, my daughter and granddaughter! My three 6 x 6” paintings are on display and available. This wonderful show is up until the end of December.

Leftover paint exercise on watercolor paper.
Trying to find ways to trick myself into not thinking too much.
The unexpected and welcome result of applying leftover paint without thinking too much. I’ve been having difficulty lately getting into the “ zone” and out of my head.
This technique helps a little.
