14 years ago today, iPhone changed the world – relive the magical launch through this collection of photos, videos, and more - 9to5Mac 06/29/2021

Happy birthday iPhone!

None of us could have imagined how day to day life would change because of smartphones. As a techie and iOS developer I like to focus on the positives, like having unlimited information, a camera, a gaming system, and my entire library of books with me at all times.

On the flip side, smartphones have become an alternative for person to person interaction. As a developer I must admit I have done more than my fair share of dark patterns to keep people glued to their devices.

A game I worked on had millions of players and some of those played for HOURS per day. We did everything in our power to encourage that kind of behavior. The scary thing is there are tens of thousands of people like me optimizing to take more and more of our users data.

I'm hoping in the next 14 years we will be able to maximize the benefits and get rid of the negatives, anyway, happy birthday iPhone and may the next 14 be even better!
