Progress is hard to see when triggered feelings make our vision clouded with intense emotions.
And progress with forgiveness can be hard to mark when the anger and confusion from being hurt don’t immediately go away when you verbalize a statement of forgiveness. But please know, not only is this normal, it’s part of the process.
The decision to forgive doesn’t fix all the damaged emotions. It doesn’t automatically remove the anger, frustration, doubt, damaged trust, or fear. This is because forgiveness is both a decision and a process, and healing is a long journey.
Your decision to forgive the facts of what happened is done in a specific moment in time. But the process of working through all the emotions from the impact of what happened will likely take place over a period of time.
So, when you get triggered, it does not mean your decision to forgive was fake. It just means there’s more to be done.
I don’t know what may have triggered you yesterday or even today… but don’t give up hope. Healing will take time. And forgiveness is a good step in the right direction. Not just good, but necessary.
Give yourself grace in this process, sweet friend, and keep moving forward.

Remembering a very special man who went to be with the Lord on June 16th. Richard Cody. I affectionately nicknamed him my, “Mystery Man Richard.”
We met at an annual banquet for another nonprofit in Homosassa in August 2019. I’d shared how I had this vision for His House for Her, Inc. About a week later he just showed up at my office across from the Salvation Army downtown Ocala. He spent time listening and shared his experience and advice. He was well qualified as you can read below. From that day on, I never knew when he’d show up or call. But EVERY time he did, I knew God told him to. He had impeccable timing to share encouragement when I was down or frustrated, or he had a possible solution to a problem to be solved, or he helped me understand what I was trying to do better. “Mystery Man Richard,” because his showing up was mysterious and unexpected! I will miss your calls and visits, Richard. But I know you are in peace. Thank you for sharing your kind heart with me. I will always remember you. ❤️
A piece from the announcement of his passing to honor him here on our space:
“Richard served our country as a Drill Sergeant in the United States Army and trained many young soldiers going directly into the front lines of Vietnam.
All his life, Richard felt a calling to do what he could to help Veterans. He too, suffered from PTSD and was treated by Dr. Edie Egar and the heroes of Veterans Village of San Diego. As part of his commitment to the programs of VVSD he returned there after his treatment, to help other Veterans and volunteered in many positions, up to and including being the Chairman of the Board of Directors of VVSD. He proudly served in this position from 1991 to 2001. Richard received a prestigious Congressional Proclamation for his service presented to him by Congresswoman Susan Davis, upon his retirement from VVSD.
Throughout his life Richard had never lost his passion for helping others, especially the homeless. He was President Emeritus of The Refuge of Jumper Creek, current member of the of Advisory Board of the Salvation Army, which was a position he held for several years. He was also a current mentor and advisor to His House for Her and the Refuge of Hope for Independent Living.”

On Friday, June 22nd we celebrated graduates 12 and 13! Congratulations to these ladies who have persevered and fought through so much emotion and so many conflicting thoughts. 40 of us gathered and you could just feel the power and love in the room. Each woman shared from her heart and they were encouraged to remember to steward the call they have inside them. They are warriors. God is repurposing their pain for His purpose. They have assignments of encouraging, praying, and helping other women rise. Thank you to all who came to love on and support!

Here's another class that has made a HUGE impact for women! This will be our 3rd rotation and here are some really encouraging words from a past participant:
What was your biggest "light bulb" moment? "When I first came in, I felt I had already dealt with this. I was over all this; I don’t have any issues with this. However, I quickly saw that I was not over it and I had not dealt with any of it; I had suppressed it all."

Another look what God did! We were surprised by a gift from which completely covered our new roof! One funding door closed, but “God saw that day,” and opened another when we went forward in faith. Thank you to our Meadowbrook Church family. We are so grateful to you. New roof was started Monday and completed right before the storm on Tuesday. Thank you to Big D Roofing Services for working with us on the expense!
THIS WEEK! Classes starting Tuesday & Thursday. All women the 9th, co-ed the 11th.

Surprise messages like this one make our work so worth it. Johnnie was with us in 2021, we went through COVID together! We recently helped her with a small portion of her registration fees for this program at Lake Technical College and connected her to resources that helped with a larger portion. Our relationship with our girls doesn’t end when they leave us. We will always do what we can to help, guide, and direct. Congratulations, Johnnie! Onward and upward! Keep nurturing the Light within. ❤️
