The prescription for chronic knee pain? Loosen the tight muscles, strengthen the weak muscles. This young woman has big aspirations in gymnastics, but long practices were causing serious knee pain. We started by releasing her quads and calves, and now we're activating and strengthening her glutes and hamstrings. 2 weeks in, the pain that lead her parents to take her to a doctor is now all but gone.

Lateral raise is one of the most misused movements in the gym. Most people bend their arms and open their chests as they raise the weight, but that puts all the tension on the front delt. Go light, go wide, keep your chest DOWN. The muscle you can see on the top is the muscle doing the work, and you can clearly see it is the medial head (middle delt) that is on top when I'm doing these. The pump is amazing, and it's safe because of the light weight, while always emphasizing muscle awareness, stability, and control.
