Did your kids have an amazing time in this summer's Arts For All camp? ☀ Did you have a great time in this summer's Theatrix classes? Keep the momentum going... registration is open now for ALL of Season 74! 📚🎭

We have after-school classes and daytime classes for our homeschooled students this fall and winter. Most youth classes are broken down into age groups 6-8, 9-12, and 13-17. Our special Tech Lab class in the fall is for ages 9-17. Our spring performance opportunity, JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH, is for ages 11-17. 🍑 Workshops (other than pre-audition workshops) are for ages 16+. Theatrix classes are for adults (ages 18+). And our long-time OCT friends & family will be frightfully pleased to see that MACABARET is back this fall for our teens! 🎃

And we're very excited this season to offer classes in TWO locations for the first time: at OCT as well as Academy West at Mary Sue Rich Community Center at Reed Place. This is a great way to make our programs more accessible for everyone in our city and (very large!) county. We are grateful to the City of Ocala for their collaboration in this new endeavor.

Classes will fill up quickly, so sign up ASAP!

The Academy at Ocala Civic Theatre is proud to announce THE DARRELL G. RILEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP.

The DGR was created thanks to a contribution from Jordan Davidsen, who grew up on our stage and in our education programs. Jordan has generously donated the funds raised from a trivia contest held in memory of Darrell – who was a formidable trivia champ and the coach of the CF Brain Bowl – to create scholarships for local students in the performing arts.

Darrell Riley, who passed away two years ago, was part of the OCT family as an active volunteer and board member for almost 30 years. An associate professor of history at the College of Central Florida, he loved OCT and educating young minds more than anything, with the exception of his beloved wife, Ginny. And he was legendary for his colorful collection of Hawaiian shirts!

THE DARRELL G. RILEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP will help the families of our students who apply for financial aid with Academy tuition. We can’t think of a better way to honor Darrell’s memory, and we hope others will be equally inspired to create a legacy donation by contributing to this scholarship fund.

For more information, please contact OCT Executive Assistant & Board Liaison Janice Kirk at [email protected] or (352) 236-2851, ext. 105.

ABOUT THE SHOW: When thirteen-year-old Meg Murry’s father mysteriously vanishes, three eccentric and otherworldly neighbors appear. They send Meg, her younger brother Charles Wallace, and their friend Calvin O'Keefe on a mystical journey through the stars to find Mr. Murry and save humanity. Meg and her companions travel across galaxies, through space and time, as the power of love and light battles darkness and the forces of evil. This 50-minute stage adaptation of the beloved young-adult science-fantasy novel is a dramatic adventure for a small ensemble of young actors.

As The Academy’s gift to the community, in collaboration with the Marion County Literacy Council, we would like to offer this as a non-tuition-based performance opportunity.

This was a busy weekend for The Academy at OCT, and we had a wonderful time! First we had a great crowd for our BUSINESS OF THE BUSINESS workshop on Saturday, then Sunday afternoon was our first Theatrix class (for ages 18+), ACTING FOR ADULTS. This class is full and already underway, but you can go ahead and sign up now for this winter's SCENE STUDY FOR ADULTS class.

Sundays from 3-5 p.m.
January 7 – February 4
Instructor: Greg Thompson
Five-week class with a maximum of eight students (ages 18+)
Tuition: $75
REGISTER ONLINE: ocalacivictheatre.com

This class helps students to develop an appreciation for the entire process of acting. It differs from foundational acting studies as it focuses on applying acting techniques to specific scene performances. Actors will improve their ability to craft characters, try different things in a low-pressure environment, explore different techniques, and refine skills such as timing, listening, reacting, etc. The class also helps actors learn how to take direction and improve communication with coaches, directors, and casting directors.
