In 2010, the World Equestrian Games (WEG) were held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky, and horsewoman and Western dressage advocate Lynn Palm was invited to provide a Western dressage demonstration, here at a working jog on Rugged Painted Lark.

“That’s how long I’ve been promoting it…and I started 13 years before that!” Lynn says in her book, FINDING YOUR SUPERHORSE. “Rugged Painted Lark was the first horse in a Western saddle in an FEI dressage and jumping arena, introducing Western dressage in the United States.”

This is a nice article about Kevin Dukes. He worked with Lynn early in his career and has had much success. Kevin wrote a foreword for Finding Your Super Horse and is featured inside as a mentee of Lynn's.

Kevin Dukes did not grow up in a horse family. But that didn’t stop him from making his way onto the back of a horse as soon as he could. “I was the weird one in our family. No one could understand me or why I was so driven to have a horse,” says Dukes. At age 13 he got his first job and used the money he earned to purchase his first horse.

Last week was wonderful for our Customized Program Clinic at The Grand Oaks Resort. Deb and Marge from Ohio were with us for a second year as well as Florida riders Terri, Lynn, Diane and Kayla, plus Winning Ways VA participant Jody, Dressage Foundation Grant winner and Winning Ways OH rider, Sam and new riders for us Alan and Deborah. We ended the week with Deb, Marge, Sam and Marie-Frances showing at the World Equestrian Center in Ocala. It was a super week to end our spring season in Florida!

Throwback ⬅️⬅️ to 1969 when the amazing LYNN PALM won the Western Horsemanship class at her very first recognized AQHA show on Sugar Baby Bars. “There isn’t enough incentive for a rider or trainer to truly improve [anymore],” Lynn writes in her book Finding Your Superhorse. “When I started, if I wanted to move up and compete at higher levels, I had to set and attain a certain standard.”
