We're always looking for ways to help share out knowledge and experience with being part of the Ocean City, MD Community. One thing we don't discuss enough is the prevalence of mold occurrence. Everyone always talks about preventing your pipes from freezing and ruining your & your neighbor's condos, but how do you proactively combat the moisture that builds up when your home has been closed up all winter?

If there's a really warm sunny day after a long stint of cold weather, the sun beating down into your sliding glass doors creates condensation & largely encourages MOLD GROWTH. Here are a couple recommendations to consider so mold doesn't take up residence in your beach condo this winter:

Damp Rid is a product that absorbs the moisture in the air. Putting a couple of containers of Damp Rid out during your winterization process have greatly improve the wellness of your unit. They're at Home Depo & in bulk at BJ's.

Dehumidifiers are an appliance that everyone at the beach can benefit from not just during the summer to help your AC run more efficiently, but also during the winter to eliminate that moisture in the air that falls onto surfaces and grows into mold.

There are several tools you can use to monitor your condo temperature and prevent freezing pipes. One option is a smart thermostat that allows you to remotely control and monitor the temperature. Another option is a temperature sensor that can alert you if the temperature drops below a certain threshold. You can also consider giving Rest Easy OC a call to perform a property wellness check! It's important to regularly check on your property at least once a month for absentee owners. This greatly reduces the chances of prolonged leaking of pipes causing mold, reduces the habitation of unwanted pests & a general knowledge of the well being of your unit is invaluable.
