***Duck Lake Mystery Solved***
Two 12-year-old boys were fishing off of the dock at North Bay Park today when they decided to go for a swim. As they jumped in off the end of the dock, they discovered a submerged object beneath their feet. They found that they were able stand on the object. When they did, it rolled slightly and an oily substance then began to bubble to the surface. Concerned, they called 911.
OSPD and OSFD responded to the call. OSFD personnel probed the murky water near the end of the dock with a pike pole until they were able to latch onto the object. They were able pull it up enough that a tire came to the surface. Unfortunately, a large oily sheen also appeared on the surface.
Utilizing a chain and the winch from an ambulance, the object was pulled clear of the water and it was discovered to be a golf cart with a leaky fuel tank. Once on dry land, it was discovered that it was actually a stolen golf cart, taken last month from the nearby Ocean Shores Golf Course.
The cart, which was determined to be a total loss, was returned to golf course personnel. The investigation into the theft was ongoing.
The Department of Emergency Management and the Department of Ecology were notified of the fuel leak in the lake. Based on the circumstances, it was determined that the spill was not significant enough to merit a response.

Shark Rescue
***Marine Life Rescue***
On the morning of 08/06/22, a report was received of a shark stranded on the beach near the Pacific Boulevard beach approach. Officer Beebe, one of our Code Enforcement/Animal Control officers, brought along his many years of experience wrangling creatures of all kinds and responded to the scene. After several cycles of taking the shark into deeper waters only to have it swim back to the beach and strand itself again, the wayward shark finally headed out to sea. Nicely done, Officer Beebe. You are jaws-ome!
