Swipe to see the outcome of this flip 🥰😍

Is this even the same set?! I think this is my favorite transformation so far on my flipping journey and DEFINITELY my favorite piece I've ever done. I didn't MEAN for this to match the moody dramatic vibe of my master bedroom makeover, but since the shoe fits 🤪?! I'd say I'm doing pretty good at not becoming a hoarder though since this is the first flip I'm keeping. I just couldn't part with it!

Remember this dresser? It's been sitting in my workspace for over a month, just waiting for its new home. While I LOVE how delicate and soft this dresser feels, it IS for a very specific person with the butterfly handles and scalloped base. I was hoping this would go in a little girl's room, but alas, it's still here!

I've realized that the larger pieces I flip go quickly in the neutral colors, but the smaller dressers seem to go quicker in bolder, brighter colors. Hence, this new look of in Sailor. I still wanted to keep some of this gorgeous wood showing, so the top is finished in Weathered Oak.

Let me know which you like better! The soft neutrals, or this bold blue?!

Hopefully 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 we can get this antique piece (made in 1946! 🤯) into a new home for the holidays!

Swipe for the results! I am in love with this dresser. I came very close to keeping it for my youngest's room, but you can't keep them all! This was put on hold with a deposit within an hour of posting it, and it turns out this is going in another awesome little girl's room!

Do you think I nailed this challenge? Not to toot my own horn, but I think I understood the assignment 😜

I've been using some funky and fun colors recently, but I'm OBSESSED with how this neutral dresser turned out. The natural mixed with gorgeous fall colors and decor give me all the autumn feels 🍂🍁🎃

Simple, delicate, soft....everything I needed right now.

I got this dresser off FB Marketplace. The person who sold this to me mentioned that this was her grandfather's and she had always loved the sailboat. I had originally planned on giving this a more modern look, but when I heard that this was her grandfather's, I decided to do something simpler to honor the wood and history.

The "office" got a face lift! My husband was using this room for board games, his desk, and 700 video game consoles, but once I wasn't working in the loft area anymore, it didn't make sense for the toddler toys to be up there. So, we switched! His stuff got moved upstairs and now our littles have their own playroom (that I am also obsessed with).

I have a habit of getting emotionally overwhelmed and starting several projects at once, usually leave at least one or two unfinished 🤪 but I finished this one in only a few days and LOVE it. Maybe I'll finally learn to finish projects one I start them?! **I can HEAR my husband rolling his eyes from across the house at that thought**

What's your favorite part of this room? I think the chalkboard wall is the coolest part of the room, but I am a sucker for the terracotta color by that I got to use.

I found this dresser on FB Marketplace and knew it had good bones and it had to come home with me. And my goodness, I was right. The wood underneath the nasty teal paint was gorgeous and I love that I got to leave some of it showing for a modern farmhouse look.

This project took way longer than it should, which was totally my fault. I should have used a paint stripper versus sanding this down to save some of my time, but hindsight is 20/20 right? 🤪

Steps I took to get this gorgeous result are below:
•cleaned the whole piece -- I found so many spider eggs 🤮
•sanded entire dresser down to the wood with a 120 grit, then a 220
•used a dremel on the accent on the base to sand as well as I could in the design
•primed the upper part of the dresser with my spray gun
•primed inside the design with a small paint brush
•used my spray gun to apply Sweet Cream paint
•used the small paintbrush again to apply True Black paint to the design at the bottom
•changed my concept for the bottom of the piece at least 10 times, leading to the project several days longer than necessary 🤣🤣
•cleaned the original hardware to remove some tarnish
•sanded entire piece down with 220 grit again
•reattached original hardware and added new k***s to the top row of drawers
•fell madly in love with the outcome and debated whether to keep or sell 🤣🤷‍♀️

Can you even tell this is the same dresser? I can't! I LOVE a full blown transformation! I usually use gold hardware on my flips, but do you like the black with this? Let me know in the comments and follow me for more flips and diy!

New look, who dis?

These are my favorite kind of transformations because the end result doesn't even look like the same dresser as when I started! This solid wood dresser was in decent shape when I got it, but it felt outdated and deserved a new life!

Repairing my mental health one flip at a time!

Photos from That Mother Flipper Lena's post 10/28/2021

This week has been a bit of a struggle for me to complete things, so I completed something simple to make myself feel better. Sometimes it's the little wins, people!

If you scroll to the last picture, it's the same table but with different k***s. The table originally was just a dark brown wood with stubby feet. I first completed the table with the original round k***s spray painted gold, but it didn't sit well with me and it didn't sell! I could easily swap out the k***s for handles, but I was out of the black paint I used on this! So, I ordered some more paint and swapped out the boring k***s for something a little more modern and already love it so much more. Tiny adjustments can make a huge difference on how you feel about something!

Now that I've made a few minor changes on a couple pieces that I've had sitting in my garage, I feel like I've accomplished something and can get back to work. Onto my next project!

I ended up making some tweaks to the green secretary desk from my last post. It was so boring and just bleh that I had to change it up. One of my husband's co workers was able to get that annoying screw off for me, so I could change the hardware. I'm loving the more modern hardware now, so I'm definitely pleased! Hopefully this finds its new home soon!

Let's talk about flexibility. The end result of this antique secretary desk wasn't exactly what I had envisioned. I had planned on swapping out the hardware on this for something more modern (and of course, gold), but the original hardware had a different idea. I got all the way to the end of this project, about to put on the new hardware, when I realized that the screw for the top door was a different size than a normal screw and wouldn't work with a new k**b! This wouldn't be a big deal, but the screw was embedded in the door! The only way to get it out would have been to saw it off. I ended up having to keep the original hardware and settle for something that I really wasn't in love with.

In life, you have to be able to roll with the punches, come up with new plans of action. Years ago, I was great at that. I was spontaneous. But in the past couple of years, my anxiety has made me more rigid. I have to be overly prepared for anything. Simple detours in a plan would have my mind spiraling and my heart racing. Outwardly, my anxiety would present as anger. My temper would flare and I would feel crazy. I was no longer flexible in life, and on top of my out of control anxiety, I had mom/wife guilt. I would beat myself up constantly about losing it with my oldest or my husband. It was a toxic cycle of anxiety, rage, guilt, and then more anxiety.

If the mix up with screws and k***s had happened on my first flip, I would have probably had a panic attack. I would have cried and felt defeated and angry. But as I've worked with my hands, cut away damaged wood, and created beauty out of something that would have otherwise been considered junk, I have let some walls down. I make mistakes while learning the ropes of flipping furniture, and I FORGIVE myself for them. This piece gave me back some of my flexibility, and this path I'm traveling down is smoothing out my crumpled mental state, one flip at a time.

I definitely got a lesson in patience with this flip. Between hand sanding the circle accents on the drawers, to taping off the areas I wanted to keep neutral, to having my paint sprayer that I'd just gotten stop working, this flip gave me a run for my money. BUT, I got to use my jigsaw when I cut the original broken legs off, which was super exciting for me. Power tools make me feel powerful 💪🏼💪🏼

This flip about killed me, but has become my favorite piece I've done by a landslide. I'm obsessed with the blue, the uncommon circle accents, and all the gold accents. Gold is my FAVORITE.

Swipe ----> for after

I went from Slytherin vibes from my last flip to Beauty and the Beast. I sat on this piece for a while before I started to work on it. It was so BIG that I had no idea what to do with it to make it more modern and attractive.

Using the same paint I used for the first flip and some gold spray paint, I was able to reuse the original hardware and gave this giant coffee table a face lift.

Don't you feel like this table is going to start singing and dancing in the Beast's castle? I sure do.

Photos from That Mother Flipper Lena's post 10/28/2021

Swipe -----> for after!

The raw wood dovetailed drawers on this gave it such a different look than the first piece I did. At this point, doing the different style really started to boost my confidence in my abilities. I started hunting for more pieces to flip to keep the dopamine coming.

Photos from That Mother Flipper Lena's post 10/28/2021

I did my first flip while I was still working my job. My mental health was quickly deteriorating and I was grasping for something to bring me a sense of comfort, peace, and purpose. I've always been a creative person who enjoys working with my hands, so I found this beat up piece of furniture and decided to try to turn it into something beautiful.

This took longer than I'd care to admit since I was still working insane hours and could only work on it after the kids went to bed, but every minute I worked on this did something to me. With every layer of old paint I removed with my handy sander, wounded parts of me started to heal.

At this point, I knew I needed to figure out how to leave my job and hoped that I could continue to flip furniture. Thankfully, I have an amazing husband who worked with me to figure it out, and now here I am!

10/23/2021

Hello friends!
I recently quit my job in corporate America because it destroyed my mental health. I picked up a sander, and haven't looked back!

I find either inexpensive or free furniture that is in pretty rough shape and bring it back to life. With some of work, sweat, and on occasion tears, I'm able to give furniture another chance and save it from a landfill.
