Sydney Crutchfield is going to be the new director for Operation Engagement!!!
In juggling the commitments of being a parent and school administrator I was unable to continue the work needed to help Operation Engagement thrive! I could not think of a better person to pass the baton to. Sydney is an incredible educator and person and my heart is so happy to see the magic of classroom transformations carried on though Sydney’s creativity and teacher magic!

She is looking for somewhere to store the kits as she gets started. If anyone has any ideas or knows of a school that might be willing to be a “host” site, let her know!

Operation Engagement is looking for leaders!

Our director/founder has moved into a school administration position and recently welcomed her baby boy! She is not able to continue in her role and we are looking to recruit our next director as well as an OKC coordinator and Tulsa coordinator to support our next amazing director! Please see the job descriptions below and consider applying or share/tag someone you think would be great! This is an incredible leadership opportunity. You don’t have to work in education or nonprofit, the only requirement being passionate about helping make school a place kids love to be! The positions are volunteer based and time spent is flexible/determined by need. Compensation possible and can be discussed! Transition plan in place to help out next leader be as successful as possible!

Director:
•Develop organizational vision & oversaw operations based on strategic plan.
•Communicate with board members, donors, volunteers & community stakeholders to ensure the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning & community outreach.
•Organize professional development events & fundraising activities.
•Collaborate with tax professionals to maintain 501(c)3 status & maintain financial bylaws to which the organization will adhere.
•Construct a functioning committee structure to meet the needs of our growing organization. •Recruit, train, and support committee leaders and members
•Plan board meetings to communicate with board members and committee leaders.

OKC and Tulsa Coordinator:
•Communicate with teachers reserving kits in their city
•Communicate with director
Facilitate host location
•Coordinate volunteers in their city

Fundraiser!!

Operation Engagement is having a pretty neat football fundraiser if anyone is interested! You pick one team each week and advance to the next week if your pick wins. After all 18 weeks of the NFL season the money from the entries is split where 50% goes to OE and 50% is given to the winner or divided among winners. The more people who enter, the more money would be available to win. Our committee leaders are knowledgable, passionate, encouraging educators making a difference in the lives of students everyday. We are so proud to call them ours! Theme Thursday!!
Our new Survivor themed classroom transformation kit is in action this week in 6th grade as they review and prepare for end of year assessments! The kit comes with a survivor logo flag, tropical decor, team color backdrops and bandanas, tiki torches, and tiki guy boxes.

The Survivor lends its self really well to teamwork and competition and is engaging for older grade levels! “My students are so motivated! The completion has been so exciting for my students. They are cheering each other on and working hard to complete the learning tasks together. I love watching them have fun learning!”, said the teacher who piloted the kit!

This kit will not be on our website until we are able to make updates this summer but is available for use in May! If you are interested in using this kit in your classroom let us know and we can get it scheduled!

Welcome to Camp Learn-a-lot!!
The camping classroom transformation kit is one of our favorites for wrapping up the year!

Stephanie, an incredible Library Media Specialist in Yukon, planned a week of outdoorsy fun in her library working to get kids excited to do s'more reading! (see what we did there?)

Complete with a full tent, this kit provides an authentic camping experience for students who haven't been. We have an optional toaster oven add-on available if you would like to make real s'mores in class!

Cross Lateral Movement Challenge!!

These movement challenges are fun and engaging brain breaks that can help to improve eye teaming skills essential for focus, reading, and writing, enhance whole-brain thinking as our left and right hemispheres work together, and develop proprioception, the awareness of our body's position and movements.

Students have a blast trying these activities and it ties in perfectly to growth mindset conversations about practice making progress and not giving up when a task is difficult!

Cross Lateral Movement Challenge! Put your left/right brain coordination to the test with these cross-lateral movement challenges! Shout out to PE teacher Matt Head for the inspiration!

Let’s talk meaningful and engaging centers! Start by looking at your standards and what your students need! Then choose your theme and go from there. I created these centers from scratch this year for this group of students. I pulled from what I already have and borrowed from friends. I spent $0. 🚜The blocks and sensory tub were borrowed from friends.
🚜Decor, play tools, cones, signage, white hard hats and Lowes belts are from our OE kit.
🚜Center items were hand made. 🚜Materials that are printed are resources I already had that were purchased over the years from TPT.
🚜My students needed word building, digraphs, long vowel teams, comparing numbers, number identification, reading and adding practice! (See photos for details)
🚜All work centers were sorts or write and wipe based. I copied everything on construction paper and laminated for reuse.

These 6th grade classes celebrated their new rock formation and plate motion knowledge with a “Great Plate Motion Bake-off”

Students applied what they have learned about the earth’s layers, rock categorization, and plate motion to complete assessment tasks and a project. The project was to design a cake with multiple layers describing what each layer was made of and connecting this to a diagram of each of earths layers where they were to label and deceive the characteristics of each layer.

The cake designs were considered by a panel of school staff judges, put through multiple rounds of competition, and the bake off champion’s cake design was actually baked and decorated by a local bakery!

This classroom transformation was an incredible culmination of the learning they did during a whole unit and a fun way to bring it all together for a final assessment opportunity.

Classroom transformations are not just for early childhood classrooms! These middle school students had a blast!
