Once your hunger has been satisfied, take a short walk to our FAMtheater to watch the movie screening of “A Winter Love,” a Romantic Drama starring writer and director, Rhiana Yazzie (Diné). The film is a modern day, intertribal, love story that shows true love is found in the season you love yourself. This event is free and open to all!

Ticketholders enjoy priority seating until 10 minutes prior to the start of the event. Walk-in visitors will then be seated as theater capacity allows.

It’s nearly indescribable the amount of loss we felt when we heard about the passing of Dr. N. Scott Momaday. Many readers know of his work, and many more writers are influenced by his words. Dr. Momaday was formally recognized by Colombia University and was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1969, which helped usher in Modern Native American literature to be what we currently know it as. More than that, he was a Kiowa man who dedicated himself towards cultural preservation of oral storytelling and traditions. Every aspect of Indigeneity is coded within his writings and is the essence which all Indigenous readers and writers respond to most. Although he may have gone on to his next journey, his presence will forever be felt among our communities.

We’re very excited to now have these two titles on our bookshelves! While we do have quite a few original works, prints, and FAMstore exclusive merch that are of contemporary ledger art style we also wanted to provide a resource that delves into where the ledger art style originated. The style is recognizable and has transcended its original intention by way of expressing the continued resilience of Indigenous people.

We would be remiss to not have MFA OU alumni Oscar Howe on our bookshelves, as well! Howe paved the way for contemporary Indigenous artists in many ways, but his most well-known contribution was protesting against the standards of “traditional Indian Art” in the mid-twentieth century. The letter of protest garnered interest and created acceptance of his, now, internationally renowned abstract paintings.
