His drag wounds are healing up so nicely! Just one week of keeping them clean and wrapped and new tissue and hair are already growing 🥹 We are so thrilled with his progress!

We also received exciting news, CUDDLY is sending Christopher a brand new wheelchair!!!! Be on the look out for that unboxing when it arrives!

**TW: Ruptured and Ulcerated Eyes**

Meet Obsidian, a warrior wrapped in a soft, black coat. We named him not only for his striking color, but also after the protective power of obsidian, believed to absorb and transform negative energy. And that’s exactly what this little guy does—he radiates warmth and positivity despite the pain he’s endured.

Even with his ruptured eyes, Obsidian, or Sid as we affectionately call him, is the most affectionate and playful boy you’ll ever meet. He loves nothing more than chasing crinkle balls and enjoying a hearty meal. His purrs and cuddles show us every day that his spirit is unbreakable.

Sid will likely need both eyes removed to relieve his pain and give him the best chance at a healthy, happy future. We’re raising funds for his upcoming surgery, and we need your support to help him get the care he deserves as soon as possible.

If you're moved by Sid's bravery and sweetness, please consider donating to his care:

Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a big difference in Sid's journey to a better life.

This weekend, we rescued an 8-year-old Shih Tzu from the OKC shelter. We’ve named her Stella. She was surrendered after an injury, and while it seemed severe at first, our vet team determined it was a fractured ulna—thankfully, not critical! 🙏 She’s now on crate rest with pain meds and should make a full recovery.

🐾 Small senior dogs like Stella can easily hurt themselves jumping off furniture—so if you have a tiny senior dog at home, consider ramps or stairs to keep them safe!

Stella also had her senior bloodwork done, and we’re waiting on results. We’ve updated her vaccines and, once her leg heals, we’ll get her spayed and ready for adoption! 🏡💕

Her vet visit was just over $500, and while our vet is amazing with payment plans, we strive to keep our account balanced each month. Can you help us cover Stella’s bill and support the other pups in our care?

Okay this post is gonna be a little different and truly you might see more and more like this. So this is Tabitha, I am the president of We’re OK Foundation and the director and main care giver of our senior and special needs sanctuary.

We are obviously based in Oklahoma and focus on the senior and special needs kiddos but that doesn’t mean the young, healthy, babies, mildly injured, sick, etc animals don’t also tug at our hearts and make us sick to our stomachs to see on euthanasia lists across the state. We try and help network and tag any we can on the other side of our rescue.

What I really wanna talk about is my “hometown” state, I was more and mostly raised in California, I don’t like to talk about it or bring it up as the state of California embarrasses me for the most part. I don’t see/think of it as beautiful weather and stunning beaches, I see the smog, the litter all over the freeways/streets/parks/beaches/trails/etc, I see ridiculous prices of gas, milk, electricity, and homes. So I don’t talk about it much but what I want to talk about today in regards to California are their animal shelters, because of the dense population of California they actually have a ton of shelters BUT if you think Oklahoma shelters are struggling you’ll never believe the state of CA shelters….

I have followed and loved Husky Halfway House (go follow and support them as well!) for years now and have seen them saving Cali Huskies for a while and watching Jenni and her team walk into shelters that I know are insanely close together and save huskies from certain death has really stirred a desire to step out and help more. We are in and follow several senior animal networking pages and it seems 4 out of 5 posts are different California shelters with seniors in desperate need of saving.

Oklahoma City shelter had 77 animals on their euth list yesterday now I haven’t seen the actual number as some could have been tagged by rescue or gotten a foster but that’s what the list started at. In California, San Jacinto Valley Shelter had 117 DOGS on their euth list and Riverside County had 111 DOGS on their euth list. Again I don’t know the actual numbers that had their futures taken but that’s 228 DOGS euthanized between just those two shelters. Oh the best part there’s only 37 miles between those two shelters. Can you imagine the lists at the other 10+ shelters in the area?

I have been dreaming a lot lately, there is over 55 acres available for sale less than half a mile from me and I dream of being able to purchase that land, build different buildings for senior animals. A large dog building, a small dog building, a physical therapy center, mini houses for the dogs that don’t like other dogs or have a bonded partner, a vet clinic on site, huge yards and gardens, quarantine buildings, cat buildings for kitties with FIV or FELV. The list truly goes on and on, with the buildings we would also love to renovate an RV or two to make pulling and transporting dogs from other areas more comfortable not only for the animals but for the amazing people who help us save them. The large dog building and mini houses would be priority as that’s where we currently struggle to help due to the current size and layout of the sanctuary.

Of course all of this takes lots and lots of money but I just wanted to take the time to share let you know we have the vision, we have the passion, we want this more than anything and truly we WILL get there, with time, donations, and volunteers. We/I hope you join us in whatever way you are called.

“Be the change you want to see in the world” - Gandhi

Enjoy Victoria’s stunning before and after, that just makes our hearts melt! Victoria is one of our seniors who would do best in a mini house to herself, she can be with another dog or two but it needs to be on her terms.

🐶Christopher Update🐶

Christopher had a wonderful morning! This energetic boy is still finding his routine, but we are making progress. He’s been full of life, and we’re working hard to give him the outlets he needs to thrive.

Today, after a fresh diaper and a good clean-up, Christopher enjoyed some time running around the senior yard, where he met a few of our residents and even checked out the chickens! We kept it low-key to avoid overwhelming him. After his outdoor adventures, Christopher came inside for his medications and cooled down with an eggy lick mat, which put him right to sleep for a much-needed nap.

Christopher is such a special dog, and we’re committed to giving him the best life possible. We’re so grateful for the love and support you’ve already shown him. He has a bright future ahead, and we’re thrilled to be part of his journey.

If you’d like to help us continue supporting Christopher’s medical needs and care, please consider donating or purchasing something from his wishlist. Every little bit makes a difference for this sweet boy!

We apologize for sharing this with you so late in the day, but today’s owner surrender turned out to be far more heartbreaking than we ever could have anticipated…

When we heard that this brave, handsome wheelie boy was coming to us, we thought we were prepared. But nothing could have readied us for the state he arrived in. Christopher, as we've now named him, is suffering from multiple drag wounds, some still fresh and bleeding, a severe urinary tract infection, and a heart murmur. The sight of him is enough to break even the hardest of hearts.

His previous family, in the end, made the right decision by surrendering him. However, the way he was transported to us—confined to a plastic crate in the back of a pickup truck all afternoon, arriving covered in f***s after a long journey from Nebraska—was unacceptable. The drive was grueling, especially in the heat of today, and the conditions he endured have left him in a precarious state.

Our dedicated vet managed to give him a quick assessment, even though they arrived over an hour later than expected. Christopher will need multiple follow-up appointments to heal his wounds, treat his UTI, and monitor his heart murmur. We hope that dehydration from his arduous journey is the cause of his heart issues, but considering he hasn't seen a vet since 2021, heartworm disease is a very real concern. In the coming days, Christopher will undergo comprehensive bloodwork, X-rays, and possibly an ultrasound to better understand his condition.

We chose to rename him Christopher, after Christopher Reeve, the actor who portrayed Superman and who himself became paralyzed after a spinal injury. Though some may question renaming him, we tried several times to call him by the name he came with, but he didn’t respond. We believe that a new life deserves a new name—a fresh start.

Right now, Christopher needs our help more than ever. We've created a wishlist specifically for him, filled with essential items like diapers, bandaging supplies, and boredom busters. Additionally, his veterinary bills are mounting, and any donations, no matter the size, will make a significant difference in his journey to recovery.

**Please Note:** The stirrups you see supporting his rear legs are a temporary measure to keep his feet off the ground. We are actively searching for replacement parts for his wheelchair, but they are quite costly. Rest assured, this is not a permanent solution, as we know the potential harm of long-term use.

Please consider donating and sharing Christopher's story to help give this courageous boy the care and love he desperately needs.

Fred, Debra, and Louie are at Waterloo Animal Hospital today, receiving much-needed dental care. Each of their procedures costs around $500, and we need your help to cover these expenses. Dental care is crucial for senior dogs like them—it’s not just about fresh breath, but also about preventing serious health issues that can arise without proper care.

Your donation today can make a huge difference in their lives, helping them stay healthy and comfortable. Once their dental treatments are done, these sweet seniors will be ready for adoption, eager to find their forever homes. Please consider contributing to their care and giving them a chance at a brighter future!

Hey OK Fam!

We've been busy over here, but we wanted to take a moment to introduce our newest senior resident. This sweet older lady was found on the streets of Okemah with no collar, tags, microchip, or any lost posts. After spending her stray hold with the finder, they reached out to us to see if we could help her.

Meet Tori! She’s a lovely hefty 29-pound lady, full of life and lipomas, some as large as softballs. Tori is now on a diet to shed a few pounds and reach a healthier weight, making it easier to remove those large growths and improve her comfort while walking and laying down.

We know senior dogs hold a special place in many hearts. Let's show Tori all the love and support she deserves!

🚨 EMERGENCY!!! EMERGENCY!!! EMERGENCY!!! 🚨

UPDATE: We have gotten a temporary AC unit thanks to the generosity of Keli Elliott! We are still working on a permanent solution. Thank you all so much for your generosity, sharing, and tags! Please keep it going, we know together we will get this all worked out 🫶🫶🫶

Last night, the air conditioner at our sanctuary BROKE and created a FLOOD of water!! The sanctuary currently houses 30 of our senior dogs who absolutely cannot handle the heat.

Currently, we have electric run to the oldies' sanctuary via a temporary heavy duty extension cord from the main building while we were saving to run power permanently out there. It is a very expensive task with estimates around $5,000. We now must make this a priority in order to replace our current AC with a mini split which will be another estimated $2,000.

We have been able to move all of the oldies to AC in the main building and various fosters, but this is a temporary solution. We want to move them back to their home ASAP!!

WHAT WE NEED:

1. Loan a Portable or Window AC Unit:
If anyone has a portable or window AC unit we can borrow, it will help us allocate funds toward a permanent solution. Otherwise, we will need to purchase one.

2. Funds:
We urgently need funds to run the electrical permanently to the sanctuary and for a mini split system. If anyone knows an electrician or heating and air company who might be willing to donate their time or supplies, please send them our way. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit and would be happy to provide donation receipts.

**IF YOU CAN HELP, PLEASE MESSAGE US!**

While our Cuddle Clone giveaway was started to raise funds to feed them through the coming months, we will happily give you one entry to the giveaway for every $15 you’re able to donate. Please help us get our oldies home!

HOW TO DONATE:
💵Cashapp: $wereokfoundation
💵 Venmo: -reOK
💵 PayPal: [email protected]

Please share and spread the word! If you know an electrician or HVAC company who might be able to help please tag them or send this to them. Our senior dogs are counting on us, and we need your help to get them back to their safe, cool home! Thank you for your support! 💔

Yesterday was a hard day. We had to say goodbye to our longest-term resident of the sanctuary, Charlie. He was surrendered to us at 18 years old, visibly distressed and confused. After about two weeks, he settled into the daily routine. Given how long it took him to acclimate and his age, we decided he would remain a permanent resident. After diagnosing him with Lyme disease, Ehrlichiosis, and Anaplasmosis, we expected a few months of good meals and medication would manage the tick diseases.

But as usual, Charlie defied the odds and stayed with us for 1 year, 2 months, and 4 days of absolute bliss. He enjoyed his chicken nuggets and chocolate bar before we helped him cross over the rainbow bridge at over 19 years old we could not have been more blessed to have him with us for his true golden year.

This is the hardest part of what we do, but when they tell us they are ready, we have to help them and give that final gift of rest and peace.

Rest easy Charlie, keep watching over us as we continue this important mission.

Please welcome Marsha to our sanctuary program 🫶

This little chi girl was found wondering around a local apartment complex alone. The community rallied together to care for her while searching for her family. When one was never found they contacted us to see if we could help her, as much as they all loved her they were worried about her health.

We gladly took Marsha in and got her to our vet to see what was going on with her cough and drooling. Unfortunately, they diagnosed Marsha with heart failure and a heart murmur as well as having terrible teeth. We’ve started her on meds that have already greatly helped how she’s feeling and she’s happily settling in at her foster home. We’ll work on getting her teeth cleaned up later after we feel her heart has had some time with her new meds.

We can’t thank you enough with your generosity in helping us with our matching donations last week! Your generosity allows us to give dogs like Marsha the medical care they need.

Estrella update 💫 We wish we had better news, she’s still with us but we haven’t had any progress.

Little miss is eating a little bit, not as much as we’d like to see and we’re still needing to give her subQ fluids. And of course helping her go to the bathroom as she’s unable to on her own.

Our vets are concerned with how high up on her chest her dislocation is. Being so high does have an effect on her bodies ability to do things like digest food.

Right now, we are doing everything we can to give Estrella the best chance at life while also being mindful of her quality of life. She’s on crate rest and we’re hoping she’ll start to see gain some strength over the next few days. She could really use your prayers. Thank you for rooting for our girl with us and all of your support.🫶
