🐴 Clear the Shelters: Join us for Clear the Shelters on Saturday, September 7th, 2024, from 12-5pm at Oklahoma City Animal Welfare! Nexus Equine will be there with some of our incredible adoptable horses, ready to find their adoptive homes.

✨Fall Night Market: Experience the Fall Night Market at Scissortail Park with Nexus Pets in downtown OKC on Friday, September 6th from 5:30-10pm! Swing by and say hello to the team while shopping and supporting local vendors, enjoying local food trucks & live entertainment.

🐶 Dogapalooza: On October 5th, from 10 am to 1 pm at Bob Moore Subaru, bring your pets for a day of fun with photo booths, contests, and food trucks. Nexus Pets will be onsite with some of our adoptable animals looking for their new homes!

🐴 58th Annual Oklahoma Czech Festival: Celebrate with Nexus Equine on October 5th on Main Street in Yukon. Enjoy the parade, Czech music, dance, food, and more!

It's been a fun summer hosting the Genesis Project kids at Nexus Equine!💙

The Genesis Project, based in NE Oklahoma City, is an organization dedicated to helping boys who have experienced abuse or neglect. Through our partnership, these kids spend time at Nexus Equine learning about horse care, teamwork, and building trust. From grooming and feeding to simply enjoying the presence of these gentle giants, to learning how to ride or crafting faux horses with the team & having races, the Genesis Project boys gain valuable skills and confidence that aid in their healing journey. This collaboration is part of our broader commitment to community outreach and education.

We're honored to play a role in providing these young people with positive, therapeutic experiences that can help shape their futures. Thank you to everyone, including our extraordinary volunteers, who made this summer so special! We are looking forward to cooler days this fall with the kids!🐴💚

We had a fun afternoon chatting with News about our participation in Clear the Shelters at OKC Animal Welfare! This event will take place on September 7th from noon to 5 pm. We’ll be featuring horses available for adoption, and we’re excited to work alongside our partners, the ETAC team and , to help these incredible animals find their adoptive homes. Meet the newest member of the Nexus Animals Team: Amanda Stump, Development Manager✨

Amanda is responsible for creating, managing, and implementing Nexus Animals’ collaborative development plan. She will support efforts to raise funds for our annual operations, strategic programs, and future support, cultivate relationships with supporters, and oversee core fundraising activities, including events and donor recognition programs.

Amanda brings extensive fundraising experience and a deep passion for community involvement. Her journey began at age 9, raising over $2,000 for homeless animals! With a degree in Political Science from the University of Oklahoma, she has successfully built relationships with donors and community leaders, securing funds for causes like animal welfare, youth development, arts enrichment, and mental health care for veterans.

Looking back on day one of the 4-H Debbie Pellegrino Equine Makeover, we’re excited to see how far our 6 incredible contestants have come! This 90-day journey celebrates the bond between youth and horses, in honor of Debbie Pellegrino’s love for equines.

Here’s what’s happening:
🌟 Connecting Oklahoma 4-H youth with Pellegrino horses
🌟 Setting goals with our Nexus Equine Trainer
🌟 Embarking on a transformative 90-day journey
🌟 Competing with themselves, not others
🌟 Celebrating achievements in a judged finale
🌟 Honoring Debbie Pellegrino’s legacy

Each finalist will receive a custom Nexus Equine belt buckle, a swag bag for their horse, a chance to win a $1,500 scholarship, and the opportunity to adopt their horse partner. Stay tuned for more updates as we approach the finale next month! 💙

ADOPT SOX🐴
Looking for an ideal companion mare? Meet Sox! She's an easygoing registered older mare that would love to live out her life with a caring person or family. She loves nothing more than to be brushed and pampered all day long. They don't get much sweeter than her, really. Sox would be a great friend to your own horse or even just hang out in the barn or pasture with you! She loves being fly sprayed and will actually seek you out for it. She has put on a lot of weight since being here and could use a little more, but we think she could gain it fairly easy.

Sox is a non-riding companion due to her age and her right hind fetlock and having an upright pastern. X-rays available upon request. Does not seem to bother her, just keep up with her feet trims! She ties well and is good for the farrier. She was great for a bath and didn't mind it at all. We have put fly boots on her and fly masks and she is good for those as well.

This sweet girl deserves a nice place to call home and somebody to call her theirs. We just love her temperment and personality and hate to see her go, but she needs to go make someone new just as happy! Come on out and meet this sweet old girl and you'll be falling in love. Adopt Sassy🐴

This sweet mare is one we can't get enough of at the barn! She is a very smart little mare and we believe she could be the mini of your dreams! Sassy had a facial injury a while back but it is almost entirely healed now thanks to the help of her previous owner and some vet care. She let us touch her ears and face but did not enjoy a brush of any other object touching her face and became a bit headshy. We believe with some work she will easily overcome this and learn to love it! Sassy takes treats very politely from your hand and enjoyed her mane and tail being brushed. She wasn't the biggest fan of her forelock being brushed, again because of the head shyness. But she took it in stride!

We were a little nervous about the fly spray and didn't enjoy it too much, though after one session she very quickly began to learn. Sassy let me pick up and pick out all four feet, though there was room for improvement, it wasn't too bad! This gal just needs a patient and kind teacher to lead her in her new home. Luckily, because of her willingness to learn, we think your job will be pretty easy in the long run.

I think you and I both know you could definitely use a mini this cute. I mean..what's wrong with adding a little bit of Sassy in your life? Come on out and meet her or schedule a virtual meet and greet with us, we would absolutely love to show you this sweet girl! Sassy is UTD on all vaccinations, dental, farrier, etc. She is also microchipped and ready to hit the road!

Adopt Angel💙

Looking for your next trail partner and best friend? Well look no further! Sweet Angel came to us in poor shape and she has gained so much weight from our refeeding program. She is still in the process of gaining weight back and could use some more on her topline, but she is steadily getting there. Angel is one of those horses that you can just grab from the pasture, get your saddle and hit the road on! Angel will gladly walk in any direction you point her. We enjoy taking her on trail rides at Nexus! She won't hesitate to cross the bridge or tarp out here and we love that about her. Angel has very smooth gaits and can ride at the W/T/L though she tends to want to stay on the lazier side of things. We have just begun retraining Angel after she has sat for close to a year in her prior home, so she is still knocking off a bit of rust.

That being said, Angel could use a good mentor to help her remember some things. Angel knows how to stand ties but could use a little work on patience. She could use a little more work on picking up her feet better and getting softer in the face while under saddle (flexing, stopping, backing better). Angel stands very well to be groomed, fly sprayed, etc. She stands nicely for you while you are tacking her up and while you are getting on.

Angel does have f***l water syndrome and is managing it better on the medication we are giving her. When adopting Angel you will receive the rest of the medication that she currently has here at Nexus. Mainly, her hind legs can get fairly messy and rubbed raw but keeping them as clean as we can has done wonders for it. Don't let that stop you though, she is definitely worth a little extra care!
