Today, we mourn the passing of Pastor John A. Reed, who dedicated 62 years of his life in service to Fairview Missionary Baptist Church in Northeast Oklahoma City. Pastor Reed's impact on his congregation and community was immeasurable. His unwavering dedication to serving others and fighting against injustices leaves a legacy that will never be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with his beloved wife, Teresa, his family, friends, and the Fairview Baptist Missionary Church community during this difficult time. May we all find comfort in the memories of his love, guidance, and inspirational leadership.

I had the honor of attending the ribbon cutting of Sisu Youth Services brand-new youth drop-in center and emergency shelter, and it was nothing short of incredible! This project has been years in the making and involved numerous partners to bring this vision to life. It's heartwarming to see young people, especially those from the LGBTQ+ community, have access to a welcoming, affirming, safe, and encouraging space.

I had the privilege to attend the YWCA Oklahoma City’s Women Who Care Share Luncheon, where I hosted incredible women from across the County who have significantly impacted our community. This event plays a vital role in raising funds for them to be able to offer services for domestic violence and sexual assault in Oklahoma County. Unfortunately, Oklahoma ranks highest in the nation for domestic violence. I am deeply honored to support the YWCA and its dedicated efforts to empower women in our community. Given our state's climate, it is crucial to have an organization that fights tirelessly to create a brighter and safer future for women in Oklahoma. Thank you YWCA! 💜

Commissioner Carrie Blumert Reiterates Opposition to Potential Jail Site Locations in Northeast Oklahoma City *References Previous Public Comments and Votes on the Issue*

“As I have stated previously, I am opposed to locating the jail at any site within Northeast Oklahoma City. I remain confident we can find a site that meets the needs of all stakeholders without inflicting continued harm on Northeast Oklahoma City.”

“This location, as well as others, are back on the agenda because we are still awaiting word from the FAA and Oklahoma City on our offer to purchase land at the airport. While I have never wavered in my opposition to locating the jail in Northeast Oklahoma City, and I have no intention of reversing course now, I have received calls, emails, and heard from citizens at our BOCC meetings about this once again appearing on our agenda. “

“In order to further make clear my opposition, I will offer a motion at our next BOCC meeting to strike that verbiage from our agenda and once and for all put to rest any notion of locating the jail in Northeast Oklahoma City. I trust my colleagues feel the same way.”

I recently spoke with students at the University of Oklahoma and the University of Central Oklahoma. We discussed the importance of civic engagement, running for office, and the roles and duties of a County Commissioner. It was inspiring to hear the perspectives of young minds and encourage them to participate actively in their communities. I greatly enjoyed engaging with the students at both universities. Additionally, I was honored to speak with Representative Cyndi A. Munson at UCO!

$30M in bonds approved to improve infrastructure in Oklahoma County 11/30/2023

During the BOCC meeting yesterday, we took a necessary step towards improving Oklahoma County's infrastructure. With the approval of up to $30 million in bonds, we can tackle much-needed capital improvements such as courthouse security upgrades, new courtrooms, improvements at our Juvenile Justice Center, and assist with constructing the new jail.

This bond will not create any debt for County buildings. The debt will be secured by properties owned by the Public Buildings Authority, a County trust, including our parking garages, the County Election Board building, the Investors Capital Building, and the Sheriff's Office at NE 36th and MLK. The County will pay off the debt through lease revenue at these properties.

$30M in bonds approved to improve infrastructure in Oklahoma County On Wednesday, $30 million in bonds was approved to improve infrastructure in Oklahoma County.

The Northeast Community Collaborative served over 1,000 families on Saturday👏🏼🥹🦃. I am so proud to be part of this group and watch the community come together to care for people, especially during the holidays. Every family that came through received a Thanksgiving box with meat, fresh produce, and pantry items. So many companies, churches, and workplaces sent volunteers and money to make this day possible. Thank you, Karen Jacobs, for your hard work and dedication in organizing this event.

Commissioner Carrie Blumert Statement on Governor’s Comments to Oklahoma Game Fowl Commission

Oklahoma County – Commissioner Carrie Blumert issued a follow-up statement today voicing her continued opposition and disgust for the Governor’s recent comments in support of cockfighting in Oklahoma. Blumert made her initial remarks on the controversy while serving as a co-host on Flash Point which aired on KFOR TV in Oklahoma City yesterday.

“As an Oklahoman, it’s appalling to me that our Governor would voice his support of this barbaric act,” said Blumert. “The issue of cockfighting in Oklahoma was decided over twenty years ago when the people voted to outlaw the practice.”

Blumert, who serves on the board of the Oklahoma Humane Society, is a passionate advocate for the humane treatment of animals, concluded by saying, “I call on the Governor and his supporters in the legislature to stop trying to pass that legislation seeks to overturn the desires of the people.”

Blumert noted that she was concerned that if the efforts of those involved with cockfighting were successful it would harm Oklahoma’s future efforts in economic development as well.

How thousands of iPads have helped police with de-escalation in Oklahoma 11/16/2023

I am proud of the de-escalation practices the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Department is implementing! Seeing how their recent introduction of iPads to assist with crisis intervention is making a difference in the community is incredible.

With more community-oriented de-escalation measures, we save lives and build relationships. Sometimes, all a person in crisis needs is to be connected with a licensed mental health professional, and these latest efforts are doing a great job of showing that.

How thousands of iPads have helped police with de-escalation in Oklahoma Law enforcement and clinicians say the iPads have been a game changer in delivering services across the state.

Recently, I partnered with CAIR Oklahoma to organize a courthouse tour for high school students from Mercy School Institute to learn about county government. They strive to cultivate balanced American Muslims who can contribute to the betterment of our community. Mercy is a private institution that caters to 400 students in OKC. The student body is diverse, with 50% Asian, 35% white, 9% multiracial, and 6% black students. Thank you, Judge Stoner and Lt. Bradley, for speaking to the students! They were curious, eager to learn more, and asked many great questions.

Today, on Veterans Day, we honor and express our gratitude to our brave veterans who have served our country with unwavering dedication and selflessness. Their sacrifices and commitment to our country are truly inspiring. We thank you for your service, sacrifice, and commitment to our country. Both of my grandpas were WWII veterans and I have always been proud of their service.

Our District 1 crew recently finished building an incredible overflow structure to help control Lake Aluma's water levels and ensure the dam never overflows.

We decided to have a lunch event to celebrate all the hard work that went into this project! It was a fantastic opportunity to show our appreciation to our incredible crew that made this all possible and thank Mayor Kenny for his leadership and partnership with Oklahoma County.

I have dedicated myself to visiting at least one community-serving agency or school in my district every Friday. Doing so gives me a chance to learn about the needs of our community directly. It also helps me have resources and knowledge to provide for those needing their services.
