Last week OCOM hosted their annual Malignant Hyperthermia (MH) Drill.

Malignant Hyperthermia is a rare but serious reaction to certain drugs used for Anesthesia. To be effective during a Malignant Hyperthermia crisis, personnel must be able to properly execute a response plan and perform specific skills and procedures.

Simulation based drills allow for the use of concepts and knowledge learned through web-based learning to be applied in a simulated nursing environment.

This drill not only fine-tuned our emergency response procedures but also highlighted the importance of coordination, quick thinking, and precision in critical situations. Continuing education such as this exemplifies OCOM’s unwavering dedication to patient safety and optimal clinical outcomes.

Meet Nicole, the highlighted employee at OCOM this month!

Nicole has played a crucial role in our Imaging team for 16 years. If you've been to our Walker Imaging location, you might have encountered her as one of our receptionists at the front desk.

Her manager nominated Nicole for this spotlight. Here's what she had to say:

"Nicole is always willing to help out with things even if it is outside of her regular job duties. She has a great attitude and takes pride in her work. She is an extremely hard worker and strives to do her best every day."

During our interview with Nicole regarding her experience at OCOM, she mentioned: "I love to hear patients' stories that were either stationed or have visited Germany when they find I am from Germany."

Nicole is an outstanding member of our exceptional team at OCOM. She, along with other staff members, truly distinguish us! We are incredibly thankful for exceptional team members like Nicole, who exhibit excellent performance and compassion towards our patients. Let's celebrate Nicole's commitment and dedication!

Jasmin became a part of our OCOM team in 2022 but had to leave briefly when her husband's work relocated them to Florida. Upon returning a few months later, Jasmin expressed, "I came back to my favorite place - OCOM."

Jasmin was nominated by both her coworker and manager, both of whom praised her with nothing but positive remarks.

"Jasmin is the definition of a team player. She always makes sure everyone's schedule is manageable and if not, steps in to help you complete your day. She helps most of the Spanish speaking patients making their experience positive. She is quick to step in and help phlebotomy with any walk in patients, ensuring their lab draw is done promptly. She helps pre-op start IVs in the morning when they have a heavy morning schedule. She does all of this with a smile on her face, every time. She is so joyful to have in the office. Based on all the extras she does, she is truly an unsung hero."

"Jasmin is one of a kind. She is always asking "how can I help". Jasmin works in the preadmission testing department at ocom, but she also helps in preop as needed. Jasmin comes in everyday with a smile on her face. She is always asking her coworkers if she can help them. Jasmin loves learning new things and ensuring that our patients have the best experience at ocom. Jasmin is very compassionate and hard working. She is the heart of preadmission testing and we are so lucky to have her on our team!!!"

We asked Jasmin in an interview what she liked most about the work that we do here, she replied: "How highly patients talk about OCOM and how we are truly such a great place to have their care."

Lacey joined the OCOM crew back in 2020 and is now rocking it as part of our nursing dream team at the North Facility.

Her teammate shared the following thoughts about her:
"Lacey is the warmest, kindest, most competent nurse I’ve had the privilege to work with. Not only she is very competent as a nurse, but she consistently creates a team focused environment. Lacey makes herself readily available to cover someone’s shift or float to another department who has staffing issues. Watching her engage with families is nothing short of a pleasure. She extends grace and is always patient and open to answer any questions or address any concerns that the patient or family has. Lacey will likely be found stocking supplies in the nutrition room or patient bays. I genuinely am a better nurse for having worked with Lacey."

When asked about her favorite part of working at OCOM, Lacey excitedly shared: "I really enjoy the company culture and supportive environment. I have the opportunity to float between both OCOM North and OCOM South in various departments and it doesn’t matter where I’m working because I’ll be surrounded by a great team."
