Economic growth and workforce development across our Great State. Let’s keep Moving Oklahoma Forward Together.
Thank you to The Oklahoman for publishing CEO Matt Payne's thoughts on Oklahoma's growing status as a destination for high-profile film and television production.
The article (in today's print edition) focuses on the forward-thinking state, civic, education, and business leaders who spent decades laying the groundwork to attract productions like Killers of the Flower Moon, Reservation Dogs, and Twisters to our state.
From hundreds of millions in economic impact to raising our international profile, their leadership in workforce development, robust incentives, and infrastructure are paying off for the state.

This week, Oklahoma will once again be in the international spotlight with the release of Universal’s star-studded Twisters, the long-awaited sequel to the 1996 hit. This marks the second time in less than 10 months that a film shot in Oklahoma dominates the global box office, following the widespread critical acclaim of Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon.
In addition to these blockbuster films, our state has been the backdrop of premiere television series Reservation Dogs and Tulsa King, attracting the talent and attention of Sylvester Stallone, Taylor Sheridan, Sterlin Harjo and Ethan Hawke.
As Oklahomans, it's important for us to recognize that these are not just small productions. These are groundbreaking films and series created by incredibly talented individuals from around the world. They have achieved the highest levels of critical and box office success and have been made by some of the greatest filmmakers in history.
Some might say that Oklahoma is experiencing a Hollywood moment, but it's more than that. This is about shaping our identity as Oklahomans.
Just like the Thunder and NBA put Oklahoma City on the global map, the film industry is doing the same - and that is something we all should celebrate.
The jobs created and the economic impact of these projects are truly something to acknowledge. The Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce projects that Twisters alone had an economic impact of $258 million. The film industry is not only changing the way people perceive Oklahoma, but is also significantly impacting lives in the state.
This achievement didn't happen in the last four years, as the list of projects above might suggest. It occurred thanks to more than two decades of collaboration from dedicated state and city visionaries, civic leaders, educators and the vibrant Oklahoma film and creative community. Together, these individuals have been working tirelessly to advance this industry since the first Twister production in 1995.
The film industry's success is due to the continuous support and effort from legislators, the executive branch and the Oklahoma Film and Music Office. They have recognized the value of film and have worked tirelessly to promote and grow the industry across multiple administrations. This support has been instrumental in attracting projects while educating citizens about the benefits of film.
These projects wouldn’t be possible without the mayors, city managers, city council members and Main Street business owners who welcomed this new industry into their cities, towns and homes. As a result, businesses have flourished, new jobs have been created, and towns have been transformed, some becoming tourist destinations.
High schools, colleges, and universities have also played a crucial role by acknowledging that the film industry boasts a diverse skill set that leads to employment, while also emphasizing the importance of storytelling.
At the heart of these efforts are the local film pioneers and creatives who chose to stay in Oklahoma and share their stories. Film enthusiasts organized festivals to showcase their peers' work, and entrepreneurs invested in businesses supporting the film industry, even when the market was small.
Most importantly, the success of the film industry in Oklahoma is thanks to the support of its citizens and elected leaders. This new global stage and economic engine has thrived because of the Oklahomans who have backed it.
When Twister ends and the credits roll, among the thousands of names and vendors, and alongside the stars, we will see the names of our family, friends and neighbors. As those credits conclude, know that the list of contributors is much longer than what you see on screen.
The full credits span nearly thirty years of dedicated individuals.
To each and every one of you who believed in the transformational power of film, I say thank you.

On this 80th anniversary of D-Day, we stand in gratitude to the Greatest Generation. We honor the courage and bravery of those souls who fought for the Liberties we cherish today, those who stood against the dark tide of evil, to those young men who selflessly ran onto the beaches of Normandy that dark day 80 years ago, without whom Freedom and Liberty would have surely fallen. From hearts of gratitude, we Thank You and honor the memories of those who sacrificed all for the Freedoms we hold dear.
In honor, this is my favorite section from President Franklin D. Roosevelt's Prayer 80 years ago for that fateful day.
"...And, O Lord, give us Faith. Give us Faith in Thee; Faith in our sons; Faith in each other; Faith in our united crusade. Let not the keenness of our spirit ever be dulled. Let not the impacts of temporary events, of temporal matters of but fleeting moment let not these deter us in our unconquerable purpose.
With Thy blessing, we shall prevail over the unholy forces of our enemy. Help us to conquer the apostles of greed and racial arrogancies. Lead us to the saving of our country, and with our sister Nations into a world unity that will spell a sure peace, a peace invulnerable to the schemings of unworthy men. And a peace that will let all of men live in freedom, reaping the just rewards of their honest toil.
Thy will be done, Almighty God.
Amen."
On this day, We Remember the Heroes who answered Freedoms Call on D-Day. May God Bless their Memories, their Families and these United States.

House Page Program Now Accepting Applications
OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma House of Representatives High School Page Program is now accepting applications for the Second Regular Session of the 59th Legislature, announced Program Director Rep. Brian Hill HD47, R-Mustang.
Each year, hundreds of juniors and seniors from each corner of the state take part in the House High School Page Program at the Oklahoma State Capitol in Oklahoma City. Students have a chance to view the legislative process up close and gain experience working in state government.
Pages are assigned for one week, Monday through Thursday, during the legislative session, which runs from the first Monday in February through the last Friday in May. Students serving as a Page work in the House Chamber during daily session, assist representatives and House staff with tasks, and take part in the House Page Mock Legislature on the floor of the House Chamber.
"Working with these talented students is always a highlight of my time at the State Capitol," Hill said. "Former Pages have gone on to become teachers, lawyers, engineers, and even elected officials themselves, but whether or not Pages pursue a public service career, I hope they each walk away with an improved understanding of the civics process and remain engaged with their state government throughout their lives."
Hotel accommodations and chaperones are provided for all students. House Pages are transported to and from the Capitol daily and are closely supervised at all times.
Interested high school juniors and seniors may visit https://former.okhouse.gov/Pages/ to submit an application or contact their state representative for more information. The Second Regular Session of the 59th Legislature begins Mon., Feb. 5, 2024.
