To maintain peak performance and prolong the lifespan of our equipment, firefighters clean, inspect, and perform routine maintenance on all tools and rigs. Ladder 7 is undergoing a thorough wash following a third-alarm fire earlier this week.
Firefighters responded to a report of an individual who had fallen through a manhole opening near West Britton and Council. Crews quickly made contact with an adult male. Using a short-haul system, two firefighters entered the opening to access and package the patient. Using a basket, crews brought the patient out. The patient was then transported to the hospital. It is unknown how long the patient was in the manhole. 🚒👨🚒
Firefighters were called to a commercial fire at a vacant two-story hotel located at 6800 S I-35 Hwy. The fire quickly grew and reached a third alarm due to the extensive fire and subsequent balcony collapse. Because of the uncertain structural integrity resulting from previous fires at this location, crews shifted to defensive operations. Firefighters will remain on the scene for an extended period. One patient was transported to the hospital for a laceration. There are no injuries to firefighters, and the cause is under investigation. 👨🏼🚒🚒
This afternoon, a fire started in a first-floor apartment. The flames spread through a window, reaching the unit above and setting some furniture on fire. Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire. All occupants evacuated safely, and no injuries were reported. The first-floor unit suffered extensive fire damage, while three other units incurred smoke damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation. 🚒👨🚒

National Pet Fire Safety Day is observed annually on July 15th. Each year, over 40,000 pets tragically lose their lives in house fires. Protect your furry friends and your home with these essential safety tips:
🐶 Always extinguish open flames and switch to flameless candles for a safer glow.
🐱 Remove stove k***s when not in use to prevent accidental ignitions.
🐰 Install smoke alarms or double-check that all your alarms are in perfect working order.
🐶 Opt for metal or plastic water bowls instead of glass ones to avoid magnifying sunlight and starting fires.
🐱 Keep leashes and collars by the door for a quick escape.
🐰 Secure young pets in kennels or pet-proofed rooms to limit their access to potential hazards.
🐶 Create an evacuation plan and assign each family member a pet to be responsible for.
🐱 If a fire breaks out, never re-enter your home. Alert firefighters about your pets and let them handle the rescue.
Stay safe and prepared!

The Oklahoma City Fire Department (OKCFD) has achieved an exceptional feat, ranking #22 in the nation for the most calls in a year according to the 2023 Firehouse Magazine National Run Survey. Engine 19 has been acknowledged as the 7th busiest engine company in the country, and Ladder 25 has also been recognized as one of the busiest rescue ladders. Our dedication to meeting the community’s needs, day or night, will never stop. 👨🏼🚒🚒

OKCFD and Mustang Fire Department teamed up for drafting and tanker training. These neighboring cities have an automatic-aid emergency response agreement and work together to serve both communities.
One person was rescued from a duplex fire. The fire started just after 2 pm at the 12000 block of Abbotts Way. It originated at the back of one duplex and spread to the shared attic and the connected unit. Fire crews rescued a bedridden adult female, and she was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. The water department is currently addressing a water main break at the scene. No firefighters were injured, and the cause of the fire is under investigation. 👨🏼🚒🚒

‼️First Anniversary‼️
A year ago, the Oklahoma City Fire Department opened a Safe Haven Baby Box at Fire Station 21. The box offers a safe, anonymous way for parents to surrender newborns. Located on the NE exterior, it is climate-controlled and equipped with motion sensors and a silent alarm for swift care.
Under Oklahoma’s Safe Haven laws, parents can safely surrender unharmed infants up to 30 days old without fear of prosecution. This baby box is the first of its kind in Oklahoma, with two more scheduled to be installed in the future. As of now, the box has not been used. Special thanks to Fostering Sweet Dreams for their support.
In the past 30 days, our firefighters have responded to 8 drowning emergencies. Unfortunately in 5 of the emergencies, the victim did not survive. It is essential to follow water safety guidelines:
❗Be a “water watcher” by supervising children closely and avoiding distractions.
❗Teach kids to ask before going near water and ensure everyone wears U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets.
❗Use barriers around pools, swim in lifeguarded areas with a buddy, and avoid alcohol or drugs when swimming or supervising.
❗Wear life jackets when boating or fishing.
❗ Sign up to learn CPR. A community trained in emergency response leads to better outcomes.
Please be cautious in or around any body of water.

The early morning rain was a welcome sight.
Since yesterday, firefighters have responded to 371 emergency incidents, including:
- 5 structure fires
- 21 grass/trash fires
- 10 other firework-related calls
The cause of several fires seems to be linked to improperly discarded fireworks, although investigations are ongoing.
