Hey y’all, Ben here. I was shaken up last night when I heard of the passing of Tito Jackson at 70 years old. Just over three months ago I drove to his newly purchased property in Claremore to interview him for the Oklahoma Today Podcast—a trip I’ll never forget. I believe I was the first reporter to join him out at his new home. Tito was a rock star: a founding member of the Jackson 5, part of the legendary “We Are The World” ensemble, and present for the iconic 1983 Motown 25 special where the moonwalk was born. He was also the last Jackson to launch a solo music career, and possibly the most private member of his star-studded family. Sitting and talking to him out by the pond where he loved to fish, I never would have guessed he’d be gone so soon. He had big plans—there were talks of producing film and television projects out of the state and opening businesses in the area. What stands out to me is that during the interview he made a point to say how proud he was of his three sons—Taj, Taryll, and TJ—and nine grandchildren. It’s tragic that this new chapter in his life that he was visibly excited about was cut so very short, but I’ll be forever thankful we were able to connect during his short time here. My deepest condolences to Tito’s family and friends.

What is original Jackson 5 member and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Tito Jackson up to these days? Living on a ranch in northeast Oklahoma of course. We were honored to pay Tito a visit and chat about his legendary music career and long-standing ties to the stage. You can hear it all June 10 on the Oklahoma Today Podcast.

It's time for a new Friday . . . on Saturday! Sorry for the delay friends, but while out adventuring for the magazine I found it difficult to obtain a strong internet connection. No matter, though, because this week's photo was worth the wait. Nature photographer Bryan Pearson did the impossible and got a hummingbird to hold still for a picture, which was snapped at, I'm sure, a very quick shutter speed near his lake home at Lake Tenkiller.
