Each May, Mental Health Awareness Month invites voices together to advocate for mental wellness, access to care, and breaking stigmas surrounding mental illness. Join us throughout the month of May (and always) showing your support of people who are living with mental illness and their families by educating yourselves and others about the realities of mental wellness. Let's create hope and combat fears. Eliminate stigmas! Treat physical and mental health equally!
As we wrap up National Volunteer Week 2022, we want to remind all of our Volunteers at Compeer Cattaraugus County just how much we appreciate you day in and day out for all of your selfless dedication!! Without YOU, we wouldn't be able to be so successful, so thank you! We would like to put a Friendship Spotlight this week on Joanne and Joann who have been Compeer Friends and have found their Friendship to be very rewarding! Thank you both for being so willing to share your story and photos with us.
(forgive the clarity of the photos, as FB doesn't seem to upload as clearly necessary today)
Volunteers are an Essential part of what keeps Compeer going strong. Without Volunteers, we literally could not function! Each year in The United States, we celebrate National Volunteer Week to recognize the contributions of our volunteers. This year's celebration is taking place this week from April 17-23, 2022. In fact, on April 15, President Biden declared National Volunteer Week in a presidential proclamation to remind the Nation that America is a country built on service and to call on individuals to do their part to improve the lives of others. Stand with us as we recognize all of the strength that Our Compeer Cattaraugus Volunteers embody and the efforts that they give each day through Friendship.
Welcome to Compeer Cattaraugus, a Program at Directions in Independent Living, Inc. Compeer supports Mental Wellness through the Healing Power of Friendship. We believe even one meaningful Friendship is life changing for an Individual striving for Mental Wellness. The Compeer Program exists to change lives through Friendship. Volunteers and Friends meet regularly 1:1 creating their own schedule and agenda together for any number of activities. Some go fishing or shopping, walk the bike trail or see a movie, anything they choose do do together; they're simply being Friends. Compeer Volunteers receive training and have access to on-going education and support from Compeer Staff. Every month, we offer free group socials for Volunteers and Friends where we play fun and engaging games, do crafts, and just enjoy Friendship together. We will use this page to share and engage with each other, bring about awareness of the Compeer Cattaraugus Program and it's services and many benefits, help to break stigmas surrounding mental illness and other important issues, and to raise Public awareness about so much more. We encourage you to like, follow, and share this page with others around the community and with anyone else you would like!! Compeer Cattaraugus looks forward to share our journey with you, and we thank you for your support!!
