Today's special is Blueberry Sourdough!

A wonderful little bread that would go great with cream cheese, honey, or maybe a spicy jam of some kind. Ooo, havarti grilled cheese with a jalapeño jam to spread on! Or, give a surprising flavor addition to something like a chicken salad sandwich! Lots of possibilities with this!

I'm thinking $6 for a 2 lbs loaf seems fair.

Cheddar Jalapeño Sourdough White bread!

I guessed on how many chilis I should add, and I think I did mostly okay. I added all the seeds, too, so no matter what the bread will be spicy!

These are pretty big loaves in relation to the specials I've done in the past, weighed out at more than 2 pounds when the dough was raw. I think $7 for a loaf is fair.

Just in time for your 4th of July celebrations, we've got a small assortment of frozen berry tarts available!

We've got two sizes, one about 8 inches across, and some individual sizes ones in packs of four. The big one is $22 and the four pack is $16. South O only!

Things didn't quite go as planned last week, so I took a week off from doing a special. To be honest, things didn't quite go as planned THIS week, either, but there was enough time to do what I had in mind. What did I have in mind?

Strawberry Bread! What better way to kick off the official 1st day of summer?

This super moist bread is made with tons of diced strawberries (I was dicing these things for like an hour and a half yesterday) and a hint of cinnamon. Yeah, I agree, a little bit of an odd flavor combo, but one I think you'll love. I do, anyway.

I've got two sizes, the big one pictured is just about 1 pound.

I think we can do $6.75 for the big one and $4.75 for the smaller one.

Fresh Cranberry Walnut Sourdough Rye today at the South O store! I'm thinking around 2ish. Maybe.

Today's South O special is monkey bread.

You guys. It smells incredible in here.

I've got two honking ones. (Yes, "honking"is a technical term. In baking parlance it means "really big.") Those are gonna be $15. I've got three smaller loaf shaped ones, we'll do $10 for those.

I, uh, made WAY too many loaves of Sourdough Rye today. Please help us get rid of them. They just got out of the oven, so they'll be warm until we close at 3.

Fresh Bacon Buns today!

Also, out of all the Sourdough Rye I made yesterday for walk-in customers, I sold a total of...zero.

So, yeah, come get some amazing bacon buns and still-plenty-fresh Sourdough Rye!

No bread or cake special this week, I just didn't have the R&D time with the holiday.

That said, our Sourdough Rye will be coming out of the oven around 1ish, and I made extra because it's been kinda busy this week, actually.

1. We've still got a few orange cakes left from yesterday. They're really good, even if they look like a toddler made them. I feel like I can say that because I made them.

2. Fresh Bohemian Rye today! I'm thinking sometime around 2ish? We'll see how the yeast is feeling today.

This week's special is an Orange cake with orange icing!

PLEASE NOTE: I am the bread guy, not the cake/pastry guy. This is the only cake that came out of the pan this pretty. The rest look like abject disasters, but that's because I'm a novice when it comes to this stuff. They will taste just fine, but, uh, maybe don't set them out as the centerpiece of your Memorial Day dessert spread.

ALSO NOTE: I will never be making this cake again omg

I've got 4 full cakes at $15 and two smaller ones at $8.

Calling all you pickle lovers! This week's South O store special is pickle bread!

A white bread made with diced pickles, dill w**d, and pickle juice.

I weighed these out at 1.75 lbs, though after baking they might be lighter than that. I'm thinking $5.50/loaf seems just about right.

The South O store is going back to more regular hours starting today. We're going to be back open all five days during the week and Saturday, too. Thursday through Saturday, those hours won't change. Monday through Wednesday, however, will still be shorter than they used to be.

Monday - Wednesday: 11-3
Thursday and Friday: 10-5:30
Saturday: 9-4:30

The Pacific Street location's hours will not be changing.

This week's South O store special is Lemon Pound Cake!

I've got two sizes, what's pictured is the big one. It's about 8 inches across and weighs about a metric ton. Those will be $15. I've also got a smaller loaf style that will be $10.

Just in time for Mother's Day ate these cute, individual-sized Chocolate Cheesecakes! They come four to a pack, are frozen, and are $16 each. South O only right now, we've got plenty come get some!

This week's special is Tomato Bread! Made with garlic, basil, oregano, rosemary, it's a great savory bread. Like, you won't believe how much this stuff smells like pizza.

Use it on any savory sandwich (grilled cheese, BLT, etc), make some bruschetta, or cheese bread. Lots of other stuff I haven't thought of, too!

I weighed them out at 1.75 lbs, though it may be less after baking. I'm thinking $5.50 for these bad boys.

SOUTH O ONLY, FIRST COME FIRST SERVED

You know, with our new days of operation in South O, I find myself with a little extra time. These last couple weeks have been the least stressed I've been since I came back in 2020. It's been nice. So, let's change that!

I think it would be a good idea to try to have a Thursday special at the South O store, something that will be available right when we open up, so I'm going to try to have something new and exciting every Thursday. We'll see how this goes, lol.

This week, I'm going to bake Pane alla Cioccolata, an Italian chocolate bread. I baked some earlier this week to test it out (see pic below) and hoo boy, is it good!

Dense bread absolutely bursting with dark chocolate flavor. I think I'm going to try a dessert grilled cheese, with a sweetened ricotta, topped with sweetened strawberries and whipped cream.

I'll madk 12 loaves, they'll only be available at the South O store, and they'll be first come, first served. I'll weigh them out at 1.5 lbs, though they may be lighter after baking. I'm thinking $5.75 is a fair price for these.

We are changing the South Omaha location's days of operation starting Monday, April 1. Our new schedule will be:

Closed Sunday through Wednesday
Thursday: 10 - 5:30
Friday: 10 - 5:30
Saturday: 9 - 4

The Pacific Street location's days and hours will be unaffected by this change.

Get your orders in for your Easter Babka now! We'll have them at both locations this upcoming Thursday through Saturday!

Right now I'm thinking they'll be $15 each. That may change but it won't change drastically from that point.

So, uh, we used what we had left of the ground caraway yesterday in our Sourdough Rye, and we won't be getting another shipment of the stuff until today or tomorrow.

That means for the next day or two, our Sourdough Rye will be going back to the original recipe from the 60's when we used whole caraway! Get it while you can! The fresh stuff will be out around 1 pm-ish in South O!

I'm unsure how to feel about our torte being the go-to on a bad day, but...

You know what? We'll gladly take that mantle from ice cream for a bit. Maybe "Let our torte be the shoulder you cry into next" should be our slogan?

I try my best to make the bread as consistently as possible, but one of the pitfalls of making things by hand is, well, that isn't always possible. Take today's batch of Sourdough Rye.

I try to make them all look like the loaf on the left. Obviously that didn't happen, ha. There could be a multitude of different reasons for what happened to the three loaves on the right, what we call "blowouts." Today, I think it's because I added a little too much flour to the mix, which made the dough too stiff. The loaves blew out because the dough wasn't elastic enough to expand after I threw them in the oven.

There's nothing wrong with bread, they just look a little funky. Oh well, it's the flaws that make us beautiful, isn't it?

We'll have fresh Bohemian Rye down in South O today, I'm thinking about 3 pm. See you then!

King Cakes are $13, the cherry cheesecakes are $34.
