“dan_hoppen When a restaurant has been serving a menu item since 1934, it must be pretty good. But doesn’t rest on its laurels, and it’s in the process of upgrading the meat on its Reuben. So l knew it had to be a part of my Omaha Reuben Hunt.
And the new meat is a game changer.
The Dell is moving to a shredded, braised brisket, and it’s fantastic. It’s salty and spiced well with just a touch of a sour kick and a nice bark. Tender but firm, it’s some of the better meat l’ve had on a Reuben so far in this tour, and there’s a lot of it.

The Dell sauce is more tangy than the traditional 1000
Island dressing, and it works well with the crunchy sauerkraut. The Swiss is melted well, giving it a nice stringiness.

I love the buttering and nice toast on the bread, though I missed the earthy flavor of a traditional rye bread. The Dell uses a Tribeca rye, which tamps down the flavor a bit and takes a way a little of that nutty, malty flavor.

But overall, this is a great sandwich that I think will rank pretty high on the final list. I love how Dundee Dell continues to innovate and update its recipes, and the Reuben is an excellent example.”
