Our team had a great time helping United Way of the Midlands assemble Shine Bright kits this week! This is such a great initiative to support students in the metro that lack essential items like soap, shampoo, conditioner, clean clothes and dental products.

We can’t thank Fotofunspot Photo Booths & Event Photography enough for sponsoring our photo booth at this year’s Shine Bright! With their photo booth, each volunteer team was able to capture a photo, print it out and take it home as a memory of their good work!

Day 2 of Shine Bight was a tremendous success! Thanks to the many volunteers who put together hygiene kits for local students.
Thousands of students in the metro are lacking essential items like soap, shampoo, conditioner, clean clothes and dental products – impacting their health, academics and confidence. Each “Shine Bright” kit contains the full-sized hygiene items these students need to feel good and succeed in the classroom and in life!
This event is possible thanks to the support of Google, Wells Fargo, Mid-America Center, Election Systems & Software, Metropolitan Utilities District, Nebraska Furniture Mart, Penske, Wellabe and Werner Enterprises.

In preparation for our upcoming campaign season, we recently held the first of two in-person Campaign Manager Workshops. This event was generously sponsored by and held at Lindsay Corporation and it hosted campaign managers from across the metro. If you missed this one, don't worry! Our next workshop will be August 22, 2024 at United Way of the Midlands. We encourage all campaign managers to register and join us for this valuable opportunity to connect and learn from one another and leaders in our community.
We had a great time walking with Emerging Leader volunteers in the Heartland Pride Parade on June 13! We also shared information about our work through UWM and 211 with hundreds of attendees from our booth inside CHI for the Heartland Pride Festival! 🏳️🌈
We had a blast at our United Way of the Midlands All-Staff Offsite on June 27! It was a day full of fun, learning, and networking as we reflected on our year's accomplishments and celebrated our successes.
UWM, JAG, and 211 staff heard from UWM Board Members Paul Maass, CEO at Scoular, and Dina Tilgner, President and COO at NP Dodge, during a panel discussion. We also heard from Dr. Paul White, author of "The 5 Love Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace," and had opportunities to connect with our agencies during roundtable discussions.

🦒Tornado Relief Event in Partnership with Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium 🐘
We are partnering with Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium for a special evening at the Zoo on Tuesday, July 30. This private, invite-only event – for people directly impacted by the storms and first responders who sprang into action during and after the storms – was created for people to come together, enjoy the Zoo and create new memories. Also, those who suffered damage and loss from the devastating storms will be invited to shop from a selection of free clothes, snacks, toys and more – all generously provided by many community partners.

We’re excited to share that Cobalt Credit Union offered a 1:1 match for employees supporting the Nebraska and Iowa Tornado Relief Fund (NITRF). They didn’t stop there—they added an extra 36%, contributing a total of $1,635!

Join United Way of the Midlands as we assemble over 5,000 Shine Bright hygiene kits for local area school children in need.
Each kit contains items such as body wash, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, deodorant, feminine hygiene products, and much more for students who otherwise would not have access to these items. Kits will be distributed by school social workers to help children "Shine Bright" this school year.

🎉 Lamson, Dugan & Murray Campaign Kickoff! 🎉
On June 24th, Lamson Dugan & Murray LLP launched their campaign with an inspiring speech from Jannette Taylor, Women's Center for Advancement President and CEO. Jannette highlighted the critical work WCA is doing to support survivors of domestic violence, stalking, sexual assault and human trafficking.

This gathering provided the United Way staff with a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by our community and highlighted the vital role that Girls Inc. and other incredible organizations play in addressing these issues.
Each leader at the event shared valuable insights and answered questions. This event will help United Way and our broader community better help support and advocate for the programs and services that make such a positive difference in the lives of so many in our community.
