Eugene Fields, Park Planning & Community Events Commissioner
I am one of 7 appointed members of the City of Orange (CA) Park Planning & Community Events Commission. I'm sharing goings-on re: our commission.
Hope to see you there!
Please join us Sunday, December 4th in the Old Towne Orange Plaza from 3:30p-7p for our 28th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony and Candlelight Choir Procession 🌲
On Tuesday, Nov. 1, the Park Planning and Community Events Commission met for the final time in 2022.
Among the items of note discussed were:
*Recommending the City Council approve Movies in the Park for April and May 2023 at Grijalva and Steve Ambriz parks, respectively.
*Recommending the City Council allow for the 2023 Concert in the Park Series to expand to El Camino Real and Grijalva parks, respectively
*Approving a procedure for recommending names of new parks to the City Council, which includes opportunity for public input
*Recommending the City Council add the proposed aquatics center back into the Grijalva Park Master Plan
*Asking Community Services staff to provide a holistic list of NEW community events
*The costs and benefits of bringing a 5K back to Orange
In my comments, I asked:
*For the Community Services Capital Improvement Program to include a water fountain closer to the tot lots at Eisenhower Park, as well as a Water Bottle Refilling Station there and at Grijalva and El Camino Real parks and the Yorba Dog Park
*For the City Council to consider adding 1-2 sports (soccer, football, laccrosse) fields as part of the Grijalva Park Master Plan
*For city staff to take a "big swing" when recommending new community events and include events that might take a few years to get done.
Our next meeting is set for Wednesday, Jan. 25, where we will hear staff's recommendations for future events and discuss the 2024 CIP, among other items.
Hope to see you there!
