Have you ever heard of “Bank Jugging?” A suspect will watch and follow a victim from a bank to their next location after they withdraw cash. Once there, the suspect will break into their car or demand the money from the victim.
Yesterday, a victim withdrew cash from a bank and drove to a coffee shop. While inside, two suspects broke into his vehicle and stole the money. A witness observed the crime and provided dispatch with the suspect’s license plate, which was later learned to be a recently stolen plate. Detectives responded and located the suspect’s vehicle parked near Tustin Street and Heim Avenue. They conducted surveillance and eventually contacted the suspects when they walked back to their car. The suspects were arrested for conspiracy and burglary, and officers recovered the victim’s cash. The suspects were booked at Orange County Jail.
Tips to prevent “Bank Jugging”:
*Be aware of your surroundings and report suspicious behavior, especially at banks.
*Before leaving a bank, secure your money in som**hing other than a cash bag or envelope.
*Do NOT leave valuables inside your vehicle.
*Make sure you are not being followed when you leave a bank. If you believe you are being followed, call 911 and drive to the nearest police station.
The Orange Police Department will be conducting a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint August 23, 2024, at 1200 East Katella Avenue between the hours of 7:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.
DUI Checkpoints like this one are placed in locations based on collision statistics and frequency of DUI arrests. Officers will be looking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment, with officers checking drivers for proper licensing.
DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes and frequency of DUI arrests. The primary
purpose of a DUI checkpoint is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road.
“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” Sergeant Kirk Salmon said. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety.”
The Orange Police Department reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs mayinterfere with driving. While medicinal and recreational ma*****na are legal, driving under the influence of ma*****na is illegal.
Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Last week the sponsored our first Teen Academy. Twenty six teenagers from our community participated and attended everyday. The purpose of the academy was to mentor our youth and build character for the future leaders of Orange. Eight teens admitted their parents forced them into the program but by the end of the week, all participants, including our officers, enjoyed the experience. The number one suggestion from the teens, “We wish the academy was longer.” Thank you to the Orange Police Foundation for investing in our youth.

Memorial Day is a day honoring and mourning the U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
Today we all remember those that made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms we as United States citizens get to enjoy. It is a debt that can never be repaid.
Tonight, Chief Dan Adams gave the keynote speech at the annual Peace Officers’ Memorial where we paid tribute to the 54 law enforcement officers who were killed in the line of duty in Orange County.
This year we were blessed to not add new names to the wall and we paid a special tribute to Sgt. John Aguilar (SAPD EOW 1998). Thank you to the for your continued support.
