My friend Michelle Mangione found this kitty in the street near Cherry and South Street yesterday. Apparently it doesn't have a collar/ name tag or a chip. L.A.-based songwriter-musician Michelle Mangione teamed up with her gal pal Grace Slick (Jefferson Airplane) to co-write a song, Lahaina Shine, to benefit families in Hawaii who were impacted by the fires on Maui in August 2023. In November Michelle recruited over 100 people to gather on the beach in Long Beach, California, to play ukuleles while singing the chorus of the song, and the audio was used in the final recording that was released this week. Downloads of the song, a beautiful tribute featuring Hawaiian performer Aolani Kaeka, are available at the link below. You can choose to donate any amount, and 100% of the proceeds will go to The People's Fund of Maui through the 501(c)(3) nonprofit Play it Forward.
