Welcome back Orange Unified School District teachers! 🍊 Our hard-working educators kicked off their year at OUSD Convocation, attending professional development sessions at our feeder high schools. They are Learners Today, making Leaders for Tomorrow!

Our team at AVID San Diego 2 this week! We had 68 teachers and administrators there, and 229 OUSD educators who attended an AVID Summer Institute this year.

Orange Unified is proud to be an AVID district, home to both a National AVID Demonstration School (Orange) and an Elementary Showcase School (Olive). AVID is a system that supports students in developing skills for college readiness and success in a global society. 🍊

What a wonderful peace of mind for OUSD parents!

ICYMI: New for the 2024-25 school year, Orange Unified will offer parents and guardians a free app called Stopfinder that will allow them to have information at their fingertips regarding their child(ren)’s bus pick-up and drop-off times and locations, including customized proximity and estimated time of arrival (ETA) notifications. Orange Unified is the first district in Orange County to offer this service to parents.

School's out for summer! 😎 Congratulations to all our OUSD High School graduates. 👏🎉🤩 I was honored to be a part of all six graduations - Parkside, Richland HS, Orange HS, El Modena HS, Canyon HS, and Villa Park HS. What an incredible experience to personally shake hands, congratulate, and pass out diploma covers to these accomplished young adults alongside my fellow trustees! We are so proud of the entire OUSD Class of 2024! 👩‍🎓🧡👨‍🎓

On Wednesday I was privileged to attend the Fletcher Mandarin Language & GATE Academy sixth grade promotion. This was an especially moving ceremony for me because I have known the majority of these students since they were in kindergarten, and some since TK. I was their principal for 6 or 7 years and watched them grow up. As each one crossed the stage I replayed memories of individual stories, some joyful, some painful, and watched as they emerged as stronger, more confident, and ready to face the trials and tribulations of middle school. My most sincere gratitude to Mrs. Cardenas, Ms. B, Ms. Armenta, Mr. Lin, and the entire Falcon Family for continuing to care for, nurture, and support these incredible humans. 😍

This morning I celebrated with the 8th grade Portola Matadors and their families at Portola Middle School. Thank you Principal Dave Mannen for a wonderful ceremony, and to all the teachers and staff who have supported these amazing students! Also, we appreciate the American Legion presenting their awards to four deserving students.

Celebrating Kindergarten promotion is one of the happiest events! I was fortunate to see the littlest Falcons at Fletcher Mandarin Language & GATE Academy as they were promoted to 1st grade! We are proud of you, and thank your teachers and Principal Cardenas for a wonderful ceremony. 🤩

My fellow board members and I, along with district administrators, celebrated four graduates at Canyon Hills 💜 with help from the Canyon HS Band, Cheerleaders, and Orange HS JROTC! Thanks to co-principals Dr. John Erratt and Dr. Karen Hanson, Dr. Sue Singh, and all the dedicated teachers and staff who have invested years into supporting these students! I was fortunate to get a quick tour and saw the assessment team offices, skills area and sensory garden. 🤩

I was honored to take part in the Cerro Villa Middle School Awards Night! Students received the following awards: President's Education Award, Pathways to Biliteracy, Medallion Recipient, Principal Honor Roll, Redesignation, and either Two, Three, or Four Trimesters of 4.0 GPA. The American Legion Post 132 gave awards to four students as well. I got to see so many of my amazing former Fletcher Mandarin Language & GATE Academy Falcons who received awards, all of whom I've known since they were in Kindergarten or 1st grade. Proud former principal here!

Jordan Academy of Language & Computer Science had their Folklorico and Mariachi Showcase on Friday. This is an after school program made possible by Expanded Learning Opportunity (ELOP) funding. These elementary students showed off their dancing, singing, and instrumental talent, while celebrating Mexican culture. Thank you to their instructors who are clearly loved by their students! ♥️

I was honored to attend the OUSD Adult Transition Program graduation last week. These bright young adults who have differences in abilities range in age from 18-22, and learn important life and job skills. It was bittersweet, as many students started as young as Orange Pre-K. The wonderful ATP staff deserves our appreciation and respect for their dedication to these graduates.

Who's got talent? The students at McPherson Magnet School who participated in their annual Talent Show! There were singers, musicians, dancers, acrobatics and a skit - but the surprise grand finale of teachers, staff, and principal Dr. Godsey brought the house down! Thank you all for your hard work and for sharing your talent with the McPherson community. 🤩

Thank you to all the young artists who participated in the 2024 Exhibition of the Arts, and thanks to Mayor Dan Slater for judging! The level of talent from elementary through high school is truly outstanding! I enjoyed viewing the artwork and meeting so many of the students who created such beautiful work. 🤩

The annual Orange Unified Council of PTAs Installation Celebration breakfast was held today. Congratulations to Karin Erich, Executive Assistant to the Superintendent/Board of Education; Sonia Posthuma, District Office Translator; and Dave Rivera, Deputy Superintendent/CBO for your Honorary Service Awards!

Our PTA/PTSA groups at the school sites are extremely valuable partners who give countless hours to support our students and programs! Their 29.730 reported volunteer hours = $1,130,115. Thank you for your dedication to all our OUSD students! 🤩
