Going by time in the game alone, I've been making music professionaly (albums sales, royalties, etc) since the late 90s with credits on Adult Swim, Cartoon Network, MTV, VH1, Indecline (Bumfights), Adobe, Disney, collabs with legends and over 3 decades of discography to back that up. Sound Scientists was the #1 underground hip-hop artist on mp3 dot com before AND after it was sold to CNET in the early 2000s. We got more plays than Gucci Mane at the time. In 2006, we had over 2,000,000 plays on youtube only counting the tracks which were uploaded officially and by artists we worked with.

Everyday I still make a conscious effort no matter what headspace I'm in, to create music. I don't share that often because when I left the recording industry in ~2010 to focus on comics, I continued to create music for personal reasons only. No need for validation or even acknowledgement.

It might sound weird, but most of the time I just listen to my own music, that nobody else has ever heard (unless they just heard me jamming to it). However, recently lots of people have been reaching out and saying that the small amounts of stuff I've been releasing for fun has been an inspiration to get them making music.

If even a single person reads a Paranoid American comic or listens to a Sound Scientists song and is inspired to create something of their own - that's reason enough to keep sharing more.

Remember how artists started moving off IG and Twitter on favor of a new platform called Cara to protest AI?

Well first of all, Caras entire platform is using serverless functions from Vercel (nextJS). Aside from the fact that using lambdas for everything is inefficient and expensive (hence an unexpected $100k overnight charge) - all of that money is going to Vercel, one of the biggest players in AI space (groq, openai, etc)

It sucks that artists are getting caught up in all this, with companies preying on the fear of having AI train on their works. I get it. But aside from the fact that Cara wasn't the solution... Anti AI artists are missing the point.

Nobody needs to train on your art anymore. Sharing your work publicly has the same risks regardless of platform. The unrealized promise of Cara was to be a safe-spafe for artists away from AI.

There's irony that the developers didn't know how serverless infrastructure worked, yet plan to take on AI as a whole.

AI did want need to train on your art at this point anyways - things like IPAdapter and others mean that style transfer can happen with a single image. Even if it's been "glazed" (which is a whole story of snake oil in itself).

Did you create a Cara account? If so, why? Does this info change your mind at all?

The Lizzie McGuire Movie (2003), Hillary Duff dies in the first 5 minutes. The rest of the movie is about her friends and family mourning her, and Lizzie's trip through the underworld (Rome).

Hear me out...

At exactly 4:20 into the movie, Lizzie slips and falls (and dies) in the shower.

The red flower pattern on her head looks a bit like a head wound, but that's not as remarkable as some of the other symbolism that comes up.

Immediately after her fatal fall, we see animated blood (albeit slightly pink) with the name Jim FALL dripping down the bathroom counter.

The very next scene takes place at graduation (a transition from one life to the next) and she is confronted by a bright white light. The tone of the graduation ceremony feels more like a wake than anything.

Even the other students seem to pick up that this is a funeral or wake. Even relating it to watching an animal die on the discovery channel.

The scene ends with Lizzie pulling down the veil (which is dirt/sand colored), and being buried under it.

And again, we have some interesting red flowers and balloons to represent the violent thrashings as she's pulled into the underworld.

Once Lizzie arrives in Rome, the first scene on the new day there after the darkness of night passes - she is lead outside by St. Peter, the guardian at the gates to Heaven.

I think these observations make a compelling case that whether intentional or not, The Lizzie McGuire Movie can be seen through the lens of Dante's Inferno.
