Whether you’re a new business owner trying to design your own logo or researching how to express your ideas to a designer, knowing what to avoid is key to developing an effective logo for your new business. Below is a list of the 5 main things to avoid:
1. Using free logo generators:
While saving money using a free logo generator may be tempting, these tools often have severe drawbacks. Many of them use stock icons or templates that can be used by multiple businesses, meaning your logo won’t be unique. There’s a real risk that a competitor could end up with the same or similar logo, which could hurt your brand’s credibility.
2. Overcomplicating the design:
Simplicity is vital in logo design. A logo should be easy to recognize and remember, so avoid cluttering it with too many elements or intricate details. Some of the most iconic logos—think Nike or McDonald’s—are simple.
3. Following trends too closely:
While being aware of design trends is important, building your logo around a fad could make it feel dated in just a few years. Aim for timelessness so your logo stays relevant as your business grows.
4. Using colors and fonts that don’t fit your brand:
Your logo should match your brand’s voice and tone. For example, if you run a law firm, bright neon colors and whimsical fonts probably aren’t a good fit. Be deliberate about the color and typography choices to ensure they align with the message you want to convey.
5. Being too specific to your current service or product:
If your logo is too focused on a particular service or product, it may no longer be relevant if you expand or pivot your business. Instead, aim for a universal representation of your brand’s essence or the main benefit your services provide.

Traditional business cards are still relevant today. Here are five reasons every business person should have a set.
1. There’s a unique personal touch in physically handing over a business card during a meeting. This act fosters a stronger connection and leaves a lasting impression that a digital exchange may struggle to match.
2. Business cards are a blank canvas for expressing your brand’s personality through design, texture, and quality, helping create a lasting impression on your prospects.
3. Business cards are not just for meetings. They can be easily handed out, left at strategic locations, or included in mailings. This versatility in distribution empowers you to ensure that your contact information is always within reach of potential clients or partners.
4. Business cards are more than just a piece of paper. They are a symbol of formality and professionalism. Their presence can significantly enhance your credibility and leave a positive, reassuring impression.
5. Traditional business cards don’t rely on technology. This makes them accessible in any situation.
For the digital component, you can add a QR code linking to your website, you social profile, or to help prospects save your contact information easily.
The example shown here is a design we worked on for one of our clients. Shout out to .illustrates for the design work!
We recently helped our client Jackson Apure create a brand new logo and visual identity for his business. Jackson offers quality, creative, and artistic photography for weddings, engagements, and family events. He captures love’s important moments through photography. He wanted a new brand identity to reflect that, to show his specialization in wedding photography, and to appeal to a broader audience. We helped him with the name, logo, tagline, and collateral design. Thank you, Imer Pacheco .illustrates for all your hard work with this project and for coming up with such a great name, L’Amour en Focus! If that doesn’t say love, I don’t know what does.
When do you know it’s time to rebrand your business? A good rule of thumb is when the name and logo no longer support your goals.
We recently helped our client ADF Resurface & More create a new brand identity. Their original logo and specific business name no longer represented their vast array of high-quality renovation services. It also didn’t support their goal of attracting established General Contractors.
With our guidance and their inspiration, a new name was born: Renofer (from renovations + Fernando, the owner’s name). We designed a new logo that represents strength, structure, and quality. Additionally, we developed a new color palette, tagline, slogan, and positioning statement, giving the company a more established feel. The new visuals emphasize the company’s attention to detail.

We recently had the honor of working with a fantastic woman whose mission is to amplify Indigenous voices by providing authentic support, advocacy, and education about Indigenous peoples. Marisa Page, a Native American descendant (Pawnee/Ponca/Comanche), came to us looking for help bringing her vision to life. We created a brand identity for her new business, Skidi Parí LLC, and a website to help her have a hub or a go-to place for everything related to Native American knowledge.
The Wolf and the Four-point Star represent the Pawnee Nation, where she is an enrolled citizen. The color palette included Marisa's favorite choices: Turquoise, Hot Pink, Black, and Purple, and they fit perfectly to create a modern, bold, indigenous fusion style, symbolizing inclusivity and celebration. The design elements represent indigenous art and stories, and we included symbols that are meaningful to Marisa.
Check out these mockups and visit her website to learn more about her mission: https://skidipari.com/

If you have a new business or feel your established company is outdated or no longer aligns with your goals, a Brand Strategy will help you find a direction. So, what exactly is a Brand Strategy? Check our latest blog to learn the what, the why, and how to develop one.
What is Brand Strategy? The what, why, and how. This article defines what Brand Strategy is and its components. It provides definitions and guidance on how to craft an effective brand strategy.
Brand Personality is the unique set of human traits and characteristics that a brand adopts to connect with its audience on a personal level. Like people, brands can be friendly, adventurous, sophisticated, or witty. Visually, you can communicate your brand's personality through colors, design elements, and typography. Check this carousel to see the five brand personality dimensions and how we applied them to a flyer. Notice that we have the same flyer template; each still reflects a different personality. What personality traits resonate with your brand? How are you communicating them visually?
When it comes to colors in marketing, it is no secret that they influence perceptions and affect how messages are communicated. This is why Color Psychology is widely used and talked about, especially in the creative industry. This post quickly explains the most popular colors and their meaning. Check out the carousel and share your thoughts! What do you think about each color? Does any brand come to mind?
