So this violin was brought to us from someone who purchased it from a pawn shop. It was made in the late 1800s by Neuner Hornsteiner. However, there is a major sound post crack on the top which essentially is a death sentence for an instrument. But add to that a terrible repair job. Very sad 😢. Because it was massacred by a bad luthier, it will not be able to restored it to the standards of Atlantic Strings. - But don’t worry, there are so many amazing violins here at Atlantic Strings in every price range for beginners all the way up to the professional level that will blow you away!

Then after showing such instruments to Mr. Allen Gatchell, he informs me that these instruments at the end of day are most definitely factory made, and will never have any appreciative value over the long run. - So be careful! The Soundpost The placement of the soundpost is critical to the resonance of the instrument. It needs to be perfectly cut and fit to match the top and back of the instrument. This is because it is primarily responsible for transmitting vibrations from the top to back plate. Its placement and tension is critical and can alter the sound significantly if it is moved by even 1/10th of a millimeter. Usually, the better the instrument, the more sensitive it will be to an adjustment and proper placement. The soundpost setter is inserted into the treble f-hole and the luthier uses it to tap on different parts of the soundpost to make slight adjustments to its placement. Tap toning allows the luthier to find the exact equilibrium of resonance and tension.
