What a surreal feeling to know your youngest baby is an official adult. What a conflicting set of emotions:
PRIDE! Pride of the woman she has become and the things she will do. I have no doubt she will see the world and live an amazing and fulfilling life.
SORROW! Sorrow because selfishly I want her to stay small, to be my little sidekick forever and never leave home. I want to keep her with me forever. Keep her safe with us all the time.
Pride over powers the sorrow because I want her to do big things. All the things I never got to do. I want her to spread her wings and explore herself and the world. I want her to be happy and become the best version of herself.
So I sit and watch the future unfold. Both with pride and sorrow, all the while knowing that even when she is 80 and I am long gone, she will forever be my little sidekick.
Happy 21st aBirthday, Izabella Maria, my poodle, my pudding, my pechuga, my baby, my voice of reason. The wisest beyond her years, the eternal little love of my life.
