2018 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend

I got my Disney Gift Cards to cover the Half and Race Retreat refund,so if you opted to get them by E-mail,you should have them soon.

Feb 14th will be here soon, and I have to make a big decision. I am almost 71 now,and this past Marathon Weekend , even with running just 10 miles on Saturday, The D***Y really kicked my butt. I may opt to do the 5K,10K and Half in 2018,the end of my Perfectly Goofy/D***y is near.

Our 50K Ultra provides an opportunity for athletes to run beyond the marathon distance with the full support of traffic control, numerous aid stations, and running with our marathoners (except for the 4.8 mile out-and-back section added to achieve the correct mileage).

Our marathon is the only marathon scheduled on Florida's west central coast this season and will use the same course as previous years. The course is accurately measured, USATF certified , and therefore a Boston Qualifier.

Our Halfathon and our 5-Miler challenges athletes with multiple bridge ascents, but also rewards them with spectacular views from each bridge's summit. Both courses are entirely within 1/4 mile of Clearwater Harbor and / or the Gulf of Mexico.

We also stage our 5K Walkathon, created for those folks who want to celebrate their healthy, active lifestyles while also encouraging those who made better health one of their New Year Resolutions. Our goal is to provide a circled date on everyone's new calendar to come together in the spirit of good health.

All these events start and finish at Coachman Park on Clearwater's waterfront, an easily accessible venue with ample, nearby parking – an ideal location to bask in the winter sun while celebrating your athletic achievement with friends, family, food, beverages and live entertainment.

For our out-of-town athletes, our award-winning, white-sand beaches provide the perfect setting to relax. Ideal average temperatures (50° - 71°) make this a perfect spot for a mid-winter vacation wrapped around a long-distance run or walk.

18th Annual Clearwater Distance Classic

Marathon Weekend 2017 is history.
From the rain weather cancelled Half to the COLD,COLD Full, it still was a magical experience.
I have had a ball over the last year doing this page,and hope you have enjoyed it and gotten some useful information.

I will be keeping the page running for 2018,so hope you will all stay with me.

CONGRATULATIONS to ALL of you who ran this weekend.
No matter 5K,10K,made up half on Saturday and Full on Sunday ,I am so proud of all of you. I want to thank all of you who came up to me and told me how much you enjoy this page,really made me feel good.
Rest up now,savor your victory,wear your medals for at least a week :-), You all deserve to be very proud of yourselves .

Just read this post on a forum about probably the Half Marathon:
"Yes, the cast inside the parks were really energetic cheering everyone on. After I finished the race I went back to my room, cleaned up, and headed back to the parks. On the way I happened to catch the end of the race coming through. This guy was limping badly and looked to be in a lot of pain. The big group of cast members behind him was following, cheering him on and encouraging him to make it to the finish line. It was a great sight to see. The balloon ladies were no where to be seen. I'm guessing since they were back on Disney property and not blocking any roads at this point they were just letting him finish the race."

Here's the pic to go with it. This to me shows the awesomeness of the Disneyland Paris crew. Look at everyone behind him. Even through his pain, that must have felt so great! (it took me a while to find the runner, he's in blue shoes and shorts on the left of the picture)

D***Y is our new PROFILE PICTURE. All of us GOOFY's used to run the 5K and call that the D***Y,but Disney took us up on this and upped us one,adding a 10k also.
For a guy of few words,he sure makes us work for our medals :-)

My training is really taking a hit. Just getting over a knee problem,now its just way to HOT to run.
Low this morning was 82,with 100 percent humidity,was going to run at 10,but its heading close to 100. I sure can not wait for WINTER,lol

No change in registration information,the Half,10K and 5K are the only events sold out. The ChEAR Squad is still not open for registration.

This page has always been about the joy of doing RUNDISNEY events. I normally stay away from world problems, there are plenty of sites to go to to read about them.
This is an exception, the tragic event of last week at Disney World when the 2 yr old boy was killed by an Alligator.
This article,from the NY TIMES,asks if the Magic has left Disney. To this I say NO. I still will feel and act like a kid when I go there. There has to be some SAFE PLACES in this world were one can go and escape the real world,and Disney Theme parks are that place.
As you can see from the picture in the article,the lagoon has been fenced off and warning signs about snakes and alligators have been put in place.
