HAPPENING TODAY: Get your kids' car seats checked at OCSO's Central Operations Center (2500 W. Colonial Bv., Orlando) from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.!
OCSO Occupant Protection Specialist Carrisa Johns wants to help you make sure your car seats are installed properly to keep your children safe.

Day #1 at the Kids and Family Expo here at the Orange County Convention Center and we’re in booth 214. stop by today we’re here until 4 o’clock and then tomorrow we’re here from 11 AM until 5 PM hanging out information on special events and everything safety.
Today ASIS International held their annual golf tournament at Celebration golf club and we want to thank them for making a donation again to the Children’s Safety Village. All these good people support children and safety and we can’t thank them enough for including us again this year. Thank you, Earl Biggett for allowing us to represent.
Help us welcome the newest member of the Children’s Safety Village, Shannon Reyes. Shannon is a senior at the University of Central Florida, studying Advertising and Public Relations. She has a big heart for children and especially loves being involved with a nonprofit organization. In her free time, she loves to ride horses, lift weights in the gym and spend time at the beach. She also recently came back from a month in Africa teaching English to young children. Welcome Shannon!
Car seat checkup event next week!
I’m over at UCP Pine Hills for their meet the teacher event so that makes two events in one day getting around quite a bit.

Tabling today at the Pine Hills Community Center for a back to school event. It was good to see so many familiar faces.
Today I traveled to the coast to meet our neighbors in Brevard County and a group of children during the last few weeks of summer camp at The DOCK. We talked about a lot of different safety techniques and now they’re equipped as they head into the new school year in a few weeks, thanks for having me out.

In observance of our Independence Day, the Children’s Safety Village will be closed and asked that you use caution if using fireworks.
Phase 1 is complete on the Orlando Fire Department mini building here at the Children’s Safety Village. Chief Salazar and his senior leadership and some new recruits were out today stripping down the old paint, making their building look spectacular. Phase 2 will be the installation of the Orlando Fire Department insignia and then we’ll schedule that ribbon-cutting event in the near future.
Tabling at the Central Florida Diaper Bank Community Baby Sprinkle in Mascotte this afternoon, presenting information on water safety for new parents and those expecting.
Day 2, we had Ladybird Academy of Dr Phillips veterans age group come out to the Children’s Safety Village to learn about 911 and Water Safety. They learned when and how to call 911 and how to properly be safe around a pool. Thank you so much for coming out!
Today we hosted Ladybird Academy at Dr. Phillips and their rookie class. They participated in our 911 for kids and water safety class and did a great job. Thank you Ms Keesa from the Orange County 911 office for teaching this bright group of children today.
This week we have had a few summer camp programs that we presented to. We were at Dramatic Education presenting our Walk-Ride Thrive program and then La Petite Academy on Conway Road was here at the Safety Village taking our Dangerous Person and 911 classes. Our Summer field trips are off to a great start.
Today we celebrate Juneteenth, a time to come together and promote freedom, unity, and equality for this country. Happy Juneteenth!
Heroes Summer Camp LAST DAY !!😭
We really did have the BEST time with all of our campers!!
It's been a blast and today was no different... Loved the Orange County Fire Rescue Dive Team presentation! Had a great ped safety presentation by Ms Kelly!
We did archery, crafts, heat pressed camp shirts, ate TONS of treats, played bingo, had so much fun making a candy salad and movie time that we didn't get a ton of pictures.
Thanks to All the staff, presenters, our CITs (Counselors in Training) and the campers!!
We'll miss all of our new friends, we hope you all have a great summer!!
Heroes Summer Camp Thursday!
We kicked off a great morning with Orange County Fire Rescue Fitness unit. Lots of exercise games and fun outside.
In the afternoon we had a presentation with Ms Lina from Orlando Health about seat belt safety. Ms Carrisa gave everyone who needed it a free booster seat.
Orange County Sheriff's Office, Florida Explorer Post came out and told us all about what they do and then showed us their practice skills for their upcoming competition.
We rounded off the afternoon with an awesome hands on session with Orange County Fire Rescue Emergency Operations unit. They taught us how to respond to an emergency situation by calling 911, and applying help to a person in need until medical professionals arrive.
Can't believe tomorrow is our last day, we're excited to have a great time with the campers!

Heroes Summer Camp Wednesday
What a cool presentation from Orange County Fire Rescue Drone Team! We learned all about how they use the drones to spot fires or find people in need of help. We also got to see the skyscrapers from downtown Orlando right in the parking lot of the Children's Safety Village of Central Florida !!
We did a lot of fun crafting, played a competitive bingo game, watched movies during raining time and overall had a great day! Can't believe Camp is almost over. We are doing a Friday candy salad celebration, so campers don't forget to bring in your bag of candy :)
Heroes Summer Camp Tuesday
We had a great day with Orange County Fire Rescue showing us the inventory on the engine/ladder truck then putting the whole ladder up and repelling down! It was such a cool demonstration!
We used fabric paint to design our own tote bags, made dirt cups, had popsicles during outside time and finished our diy boat stem challenge (kudos to Team Shark for winning!).
We also hosted a corn hole tournament and after going through the brackets Team Dos Hermanos took the win!
Heroes Summer Camp! Monday
Big thanks to Orange County Fire Rescue Bike Team for teaching our campers all about their role in community events and how they can carry all the supplies needed to help someone with a medical emergency.
Special thanks to Mr Mike at the Epilepsy Association for his great presentation on how to spot a seizure and what to do. Of course, having Rufus visit was great too!
Friday was the last day of Heroes Summer Camp for a few of our campers and we will miss them!
We had a great time learning about being safe on and in the water with Orange County Sheriff's Office, Florida Marine unit. Then learned all about the K9 unit's bloodhound Wyatt.
We made lots of fun crafts, did archery, had pool time, made chocolate croissants, finished a stem challenge and had a visit from 2 past CITs.
