Florida Speech Families,

In accordance with our inclement weather policy, our office will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, August 30th. (We follow Orange County Public Schools' & Seminole County Public Schools’ weather closing schedules.) We will assess the clinic after the storm has passed and advise of reopening schedules at that time.

Applicants must have a Master’s degree, but CF applications are encouraged and accepted! We can’t wait to talk to you!

💬What is your favorite therapy activity?
I love pairing games like Pop up Pirate or Pop the pig with articulation

💬What is your favorite speech and/or language skill/area to work on?
I enjoy it all! It’s nice to have a mix of articulation, early intervention, and language clients.

💬Why do you like being an SLP?
I love that there are so many areas and age groups within our scope of practice.

💬What is your current favorite TV show?
Firefly Lane!

💬What is your favorite candy?
Reese’s!

💬What do you like about working for Florida Speech?
We have such a great group of professionals and have so much fun together! We all support each other and love all of our clients. I also get to work with my bestie every day, Ms. Kerry!

Playdoh, all the kids love playing with it and there are so many different goals I can target while using it.

Articulation!

💬Why do you like being an SLP?
I love having the opportunity to facilitate communication for my kids! Everyone deserves a voice and I enjoy being the person to help make it happen!

💬What is your current favorite TV show?
Ted Lasso!

💬What is your favorite candy?
Reese’s!

💬What do you like about working for Florida Speech?
Sharing an office with our sister company Achieve! It is so fun and helpful being able to work so closely with PT, OT and ABA everyday! I also get to work with my bestie every day, Ms. Alexa!

Today was pajama day and ice cream sundae day in our Waterford Lakes clinic. We had a blast sharing today with our clients and our colleagues at ! Special thanks to our admin team who planned the whole thing! Happy Valentine’s Day!

Dear Families and Friends,

The CDC recently lifted the masking recommendation at healthcare facilities. This is due to the availability of vaccines and treatments. As a result, Florida Speech will also be lifting our mask requirement effective Monday, 10/10/22. Masks will be optional and available going forward, should a family or clinician still feel a mask is necessary during an in-person therapy session. Beginning Monday:

Clinicians and administrative staff will continue to carry a mask and have one available for should a family or clinician prefer masking to continue.
We will continue to make masks available to clients in the office.
Anyone may request that masking continue if they are immunocompromised or have other health concerns.
Please continue to uphold the wellness policy and reschedule therapy sessions if anyone is not feeling well.

After 2.5 years of being masked, this is a huge milestone. We sincerely appreciate your patience, diligence and care for our family of clients, clinicians, and staff during this long haul. If you have any questions or concerns, please bring them to one of our administrative team so we may be of assistance.

First, we hope all our families weathered Hurricane Ian safely! If your family is in need of something, please let us know so we may assist.

We are happy to announce our Waterford Lakes clinic will be re-opening for all services and sessions on Monday, 10/3/22. We look forward to seeing you!

All community-based or teletherapy sessions will resume as normal, pending power & internet capabilities. Your clinician(s) should have been in touch already to confirm these sessions. Please don't hesitate to reach out to your clinician directly or call our office on Monday if you aren't sure about your child's/children's sessions.

Sadly, our Winter Springs clinic sustained significant water damage due to the storm. We had restoration crews on site Friday, and we worked around the clock this weekend to get as much work done to avoid therapy interruptions. Unfortunately the damage is significant and requires an extensive restoration and repair process. Therefore, the Winter Springs clinic will remain closed for the near future and we will update on that re-opening as we make progress with the repairs. We do have space available at our Waterford Lakes clinic, so clinicians have been in touch with families to offer a move to that location, or a switch to teletherapy, for the time being. We appreciate your patience and understanding!

Thank you for your flexibility during this past week as we all had to 'go with the flow.' We can't wait to see you again, soon!

IMPORTANT UPDATE!

In accordance with local school district closings, our Waterford Lakes and Winter Springs clinics will be closed for therapy on Wednesday, 9/28 and Thursday, 9/29.

We will continue to monitor the storm and local safety guidelines, and will announce when we are able to safely re-open.

We are open for all regular therapies on Tuesday, 9/27.

Please check with your individual clinician(s) as to their availability, as some clinicians and sessions may be able to move to a temporary teletherapy offering. Please communicate scheduling directly with your clinician(s).

We understand this is a difficult time for many. We will do our best to keep everyone updated as to when we are able to safely reopen. Our utmost concern and top priority is your safety and the safety of our team. Please take precautions and be safe!

Did you know that children who are involved in family literacy activities typically score 10 points higher on standardized reading tests?
Reading to our children, in a variety of ways, is one of the most profound activities we can do for their language development. Today we gave away a box of gently used books to help foster language/literacy development for young readers! This classic was one of them - a favorite across generations!

On March 21, 2002, Florida Speech was created - and here we are today, celebrating 20 years of service to our Central Florida communities! As I searched for the words to express all the emotions of this day, I've found that I'm at a loss (rare for an SLP, to be honest!) except for this:

Thank You.

Thank you to the families who trust us to care for their loved one's communication needs. Thank you to the clients who gave so much effort in every session.
Thank you to the clinicians who pour their heart and soul into their work (in and out of the therapy session) every single day.
Thank you to the administration staff who make the magic happen for literally everyone in our organization.
Thank you to the community partners we've been blessed to collaborate with.
Thank you to all for your referrals and recommendations.
Thank you for welcoming us into your homes and your lives - making us all a part of your extended family.

This "job" has always been so much more than a job. It's a calling, it's service. It's not always easy (the last 2 years have highlighted that!), and we as an organization are not perfect, but I hope that all our families, past, present, and future, know they are the center of everything Florida Speech does and stands for. My mission, back on March 21 of 2002 was to serve as many people as possible because communication is a basic human right. It is a right that has no prerequisite or qualification. It is what we as an organization aim to foster and grow with every client in every session.

So, thank you. Thank you for 20 incredible years, and cheers to 20 more!
