Earlier today, Q93 responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a vehicle that rolled over and landed in a ditch on I-95. Inside the vehicle was a woman and three children with the oldest being 5 years old. Everyone involved is OKAY but all of their Christmas presents were in the submerged vehicle. Q93 went above and beyond using a ladder to make entry into the submerged vehicle and was able to collect most of the presents from the vehicle. Along with the help of Volusia Sheriffs Office they were able to remove the presents and have them delivered to the family at the hospital โค๏ธ

Our hearts are with our brothers during this time ๐ Thank you for your service to the citizens over this time. Our prayers go out to the Bakaysaโs family.
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Officer Michael Bakaysa of the Ormond Beach Police Department. Officer Bakaysa, a dedicated and respected member of our force for more than 27 years, tragically passed away after suffering a medical incident during training two weeks ago.
Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of not just a colleague, but a friend, a mentor, and a hero in our community. Officer Bakaysa's commitment to serving and protecting the people of Ormond Beach was unwavering, and his absence leaves a void that cannot be filled.
We extend our deepest sympathies to Officer Bakaysaโs family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. Your loss is immeasurable, and we stand with you in grief.
To honor Officer Bakaysaโs legacy, let us come together as a community with compassion and support for one another. For those interested, funeral details will be forthcoming.

Congratulations are in order for 2 of our newer firefighters! Firefighter Meadows and Loveless have both completed their Probationary period. For those that do not know, the probationary period is a firefighters first year working at a department, during this first year they are tested and challenged daily so that they will know all that it takes to be a firefighter. These two men have completed that first year and have many great years to come after, congrats!

Storm Update:
This is a very concerning issue. We are experiencing some very significant staffing issues throughout all of Volusia County. The demand for our services has never been higher. Every city in this county has grown at a very high rate over the last decade or two, and very few of them have increased staffing levels of their emergency services to keep up.
Every day we have to explain to our patients why they are waiting so long for an ambulance. EVAC is trying hard to keep up with the demand, and so are we, but sometimes we are spread too thin. All emergency service providers in this county do an incredible job, but over the last few years, we are finding it hard to provide the best care possible. Please voice your concerns over this issue.
*URGENT STAFFING ALERT*
This may look like a fully staffed FIRE STATION with an ALS ambulance, but unfortunately it is not!
The County has once again failed its obligation to staff this ambulance in Ormond by the Sea for its second day in a row and many days prior to this post.
This is causing systemic wide disruptions to our emergency service model.
Advanced Life Support ambulances, and in many cases Basic Life Support ambulances, are not being dispatched and have a 20-30 minute delay to get on scene.
This is also having a trickle down affect of taking ALS fire engines out of service, reducing your fire and ems coverage.
Your DUAL CERTIFIED FIREFIGHTERS have offered solutions!!!!
These include staffing this ambulance and additional units, increasing our staffing to 4 on ALS fire trucks to supplement the BLS ambulances(which carry no ALS equipment), and other options.
The County would rather ignore our recommendations, have extended response times, work their ems employees until their breaking point, and blame it on โparamedic shortagesโ.
Kudos to our ems crews doing the best job they can with the working conditions they have.
The most troubling thing isโฆ..this issue has been going on for over 5 years without any resolve.
People SUFFERING is not the answer.

This issue has been on going for some time now and this instance could have been a lot worse. We are running more and more calls where our paramedics are having to ride on BLS ambulances (an ambulance with only EMTโs). Our top priority on every call is the citizen/patient that we run on, which means if no ALS (an ambulance with a paramedic) ambulance is not available then we will send one of our FF/Paramedics with a BLS ambulance every time because the citizen always comes first. The issue that comes after is that we are now understaffed on our firetrucks, usually bringing our trucks down to two firefighters. NFPA; the organization that we follow recommends ALL fire apparatus be staffed with a MINIMUM of FOUR firefighters at all times. We normally have 3 firefighter on our trucks majority of the time so when we send a FF/Paramedic to ride on a BLS unit we have to drop down to two. Which leads to us not being able to respond to other calls within the city. While we canโt fix VCEMSโs issue of understaffed ambulances and overworked personnel, something we can do is increase our staffing to 4 firefighters at every station. This will help when we do have to send a firefighter to ride in we will still have 3 firefighters on a truck and can allow our truck to stay in service to still run calls and protect the citizens in our city. Our cities increasing population and call demand is noticeable and our staffing has not reflected the increase we have seen, we hope that we can follow suit as other departments and be able to properly staff our trucks.

Ormond Beach Fire Fighterโs are attending the same Health Department Hepatitis A informational sessions with our Police Department, and can chose to be vaccinated as well.
Earlier today the City of Ormond Beach arranged for the Health Department to come speak to us about the Hepatitis-A epidemic in Volusia County. Afterwards Captain Chris Roos elected to get vaccinated at Florida Health Care (Thank you Delvonda Willingham for being gentle with me). Do some research and find out if this vaccination is right for you and your family.
