Help Launch Abortion Out Loud 11/05/2019

Calling activists from UMaine and beyond! Do you know anyone on virtually any college campus who would be interested in hosting an Abortion Out Loud event? Do you know someone who would just like to help spread the word and end the stigma around abortion? Maybe you know a sticker lover who would enjoy a collection of Abortion Out Loud stickers to plaster across their campus. PLEASE share this link-- https://actionnetwork.org/forms/help-launch-abortion-out-loud?source=direct_link&
with your friends at colleges all over!! Abortion Out Loud will not send out any materials to anyone until they have had 200 different campuses sign up for them, and they're at around 143 now. The UMaine Feminist Collective really wants to update our materials and swag for this exceptional campaign, but we need more campuses to sign on in order to get them. Please help by sharing or sending to a friend! Keep on keeping on feminist friends!

Help Launch Abortion Out Loud Young people have always been at the forefront of social change, pushing the bounds until a groundbreaking idea becomes the norm. And today, young people are tired of the stigmatizing way people whisper "abortion." They’re tired of young voices being excluded from abortion conversations. They’re...

Join us tonight in the North Pod from 7-9 pm for our annual Take Back the Night! This is a great event for speaking out about domestic violence and sexual assault, and more importantly, to give a safe space for anyone to come and share their experiences. There will be many organizations there tonight, along with snacks and sensory materials to aid with any needs people may have. We will be having a march around campus from 9-9:30 pm as well if you cannot make the speak out! We look forward to seeing everyone there and encourage any necessary self care before and after the event!

The University of Maine Feminist Collective would like to offer our support to all those negatively affected by the UMaine College Republican’s recent Facebook post regarding Indigenous people and the culture surrounding the upcoming holiday on Monday. Regardless of politics, we recognize that the remarks made against minorities are fueled by internalized biases from the members of this group, and are dismayed to share the same title as them. We will always stand by those who are impacted by this systematic racism, and we fully support speaking more on this issue as a community. The Feminist Collective recognizes that the University of Maine has a diverse population, and as an organization we have taken the steps to improve our own implicit biases regarding race. We invite everyone to reach out for more information to participate in our scheduled Implicit Bias trainings, as well as to attend our weekly meetings where we tackle race related issues and work to improve our own internalized racism. We would also like to share a message from our Student Government Body President Bentley Simpson, inviting all of us to attend an event about Maine Wabanaki history. The Feminist Collective will not speak on behalf on those who are affected by the posts from the UMaine College Republicans, but we will stand beside them as allies and fight for the right to feel safe on the campus we all share and love.

Maine Family Planning to sue over new Trump abortion ‘gag rule’ 02/24/2019

We need to all work together to stop this 'gag rule.' This hurts more than abortion- Family Planning centers /need/ funding, they /need/ support. Support Maine Family Planning! Cheer them on as they work to do what we all want-- protect choice, healthcare, and hearts!

Maine Family Planning to sue over new Trump abortion ‘gag rule’ The changes block doctors and nurses at health care facilities that receive Title X funds from discussing abortion as a viable option with pregnant patients, or making referrals to abortion providers.
