I want to introduce A new employees to the HMW team, Bob Christy A helicopter mechanic in the Army, Worked for the Bigfoot monster truck team, Childress Racing on the Nascar trucks as a chassis fabricator. I received a local flyer from another garage in the area. And it reads *** is the place, compare our price. The lowest price is not always the cheapest repair. Lack of knowledge, experience and the proper tools to perform a task, put the customer at risk for a large invoice. Another huge factor is experience, and the ability to put customer satisfaction, before $$$. Everyday I hear of horror story's of unscrupulous acts of a shop or mechanic. So keep a watchful eye, ask questions, and seek a second opinion if things just don't seem right. be safe and happy motoring.

Question everything! Today I had a customer ask me a question about his vehicle. He took it to a local fast l**e joint to have the oil changed. And the service tech stated to him all his fluids are good and he topped off the power steering resivour. Here is the problem A Chevrolet Cobalt has a electrical motor attached to the column inside the vehicle it does not have a pump, or any fluid. So what did he top off if any thing? Or was it all just a big illusion of great service, So question everything..

I have a question for you. If the garage you take you car to for service does not have the tools to reset the maintenance light after an oil service. Are they actually able to properly service your car??? Ponder that.

Become a savvy vehicle owner! Pay attention to your vehicle repairs. What I have noticed from customer complaints, and service history of their vehicles, is that some repair shops are using cheap quality replacement parts, and The bad thing! you the vehicle owner are being charged for the High quality higher priced parts!! In my opinion that's stealing by deceit. My suggestion is ask!! ask what parts are being installed, ask about the quality and warranty of the replacement part, Before the work is started. Instruct the shop to keep the old parts and the Box the new part came in for your inspection, So you can see what was removed and what was installed. What I have also noticed is even though I buy the highest quality part, We still get a part that fails during the parts Warranty period. When that happens I replace the part free of charge, parts and Labor for my customers. And submit a warranty claim to the parts house for the labor reimbursement. Sometimes I get paid sometimes I do not It's Not always fair to the shop, but charging the customer is not fair at all . If we install a used replacement part and it does not come with a labor warranty I inform the customer, if the part fails there will be a charge to remove and replace the failed Item!! . So Ask what is covered under the parts warranty, is the shop going to replace the failed part for free?? So Ask questions, your vehicle is a huge investment and requires periodic maintenance to keep it trouble free. You should be able to ask you repair shop any question and not feel uncomfortable doing so. Happy motoring my Friends.

Rebuilding a set of heads for a V-8 Jaguar. You know your getting old when you can barly see the valve keeper. The parts keep getting smaller and smaller.

In the past few months I have had a few customers that have had Cat Converter failures. They Asked about used, aftermarket, and other replacment converters. Here is what the Federal Goverment Say's about Catalitic Conver replacment, and How the Professional technican is held to a higher standard.
What about using converters from salvage yards or junked cars?
EPA considers it a violation of the policy to install a used converter from a salvage yard or sell it for reuse unless it has been properly tested and labeled. Similarly, it is a violation to install an untested used converter brought in by a customer, even if the customer insists that the used converter came off his/her vehicle.
Salvage or junk yards also would be considered liable for causing tampering if they sell converters that have not been tested or do not meet the requirements outlined in the policy and if the
converters are subsequently installed by parties named in the Clean Air Act as prohibited from tampering.

Busy building the Monster Mopar 500CI Bad Betty, for Dan Labonte. She is one sexi beast of a motor. Cam degreed in nicley at 106.5 . Installing the pistons, Rotating assembly should be complete today.

Latest Trend I am seeing are Failed Catalytic Converters. The cause of failed converters can be from several things. Improper fuel usage, fuel management system malfunction, (Check Engine Light). The Converters are expensive to replace, and are required under federal law. The cel is your first clue to engine management problems, and when the CEL is on, its telling you to get the vehicle to the shop. Prolonged vehicle usage with a CEL on could lead to costly future repairs. depending on the issue. So do not delay on having the system checked to determine if you have a serious problem or not.

I just love it when every one in the world has attempted to repair a vehicle, and have rigged it beyond belief. Then brings it to me to fix! It takes longer to fix the screw up then the original failure. Its simple stuff, aint rocket science.
