MEET THE 2019-2020 EXECUTIVE BOARD๐บ๐ณ: Next up we have our President Zoรซ Dahse! Zoรซ is a senior pursuing a double major in UWO Political Science and International Studies through the UW Oshkosh International Studies Program!
Going into her fourth year on the team, this will be Zoรซ's third year on the team's executive board. Previously, she held the positions of Oshkosh Student Association Representative, as well as Vice President. Zoรซ stated, "Going into my fourth year, I am honored to serve as President for the 36th year of the tradition of excellence. My past leadership experiences on the team have guided me and prepared me on this path to Presidency, and I cannot thank Dr. Kenneth J. Grieb, and all of the team members before my time for building a program as prestigious and giving as UWO Model UN". ๐
Sitting on the executive board during Dr. Grieb's last year, and working closely with year 35 President Matt Clowney to shape the team into a new era of Model UN, has allowed Zoรซ to draw on past experiences from the team that we all know and love, and help guide her in working with both Advisors, Dr. Tracy Hoffmann Slagter and Dr. Ang Gray Subulwa in transforming our resilient team in continuing our tradition.
Through her time in Model UN, she has spent most of her time researching political and environmental topics. Zoe stated, "At first, I was honestly not that excited to make the transition from talking about weapons of mass destruction, to plastic in the ocean. However, through this research, there are a lot of direct links that intertwine political and environmental issues. The best thing about Model UN is that there is ALWAYS something new to learn, or expand on. In my fourth year, I am eager to make more connections, and help others get the same transformational knowledge that I have gotten out of Model UN so far". If you want to chat with Zoรซ, stop by her office in Sage Hall 4444!
PLEASE come to the Informational Meeting tonight in Sage 3232! There will be free pizza๐๐๐!
MEET THE 2019-2020 EXECUTIVE BOARD๐บ๐ณ: Next up we have our Vice President Josey Strand! Josey is pursuing three majors in Spanish, Anthropology, and International Studies through the UW Oshkosh International Studies Program.
Reflecting on her past three years of Model UN, Josey's favorite country to represent was Gabon๐ฌ๐ฆ, and her favorite topic to research was human trafficking. Going into her fourth year, Josey is looking forward to making new friends and passing down knowledge to new members to continue the tradition of excellence. Through her Model UN experiences, Josey has seen a huge confidence boost from her first year to now. She attributes Model UN to helping her immensely in her personal and professional lives! Josey's spark to learn about the world around her led her to study abroad in Argentina this summer! She looks forward to sharing her experiences and knowledge from Argentina ๐ฆ๐ทwith the team.
Josey encourages all new students to join the team because not only does it help you with research, writingโ๏ธ, and public speaking, but it gives you the BEST friends you could ever ask for! If you want to chat with Josey come to her office in Sage 4444! ๐๐คฉโญ๏ธ
Don't forget our Informational Meeting is tomorrow night, Thursday 9/12 at 6:30PM in Sage 3232! If you have any questions email [email protected]!
MEET THE 2019-2020 EXECUTIVE BOARD๐บ๐ณ: Next up we have our Second Vice President Peter Herrmann! Peter is pursuing a major in UWO Political Science with minors in Law and Policy, Civic Engagement, and Public Administration.
With a year of experience on the team under his belt, Peter, a fourth year college student, believes his past experiences can help him provide a unique perspective to the decision making processes of the team, especially regarding fundraising๐ธ! As a teammate, Peter has enjoyed learning about United Nations Peacekeeping the most. Peter stated, "UN Peacekeeping performs a very admirable job, yet has flaws that warrant plans and discussions on how to resolve them, such as the empowerment of local women and women Peacekeepers. As conflicts continue to arise globally, it is important that people are familiar with the role UN Peacekeeping has to play in resolving them". During Peter's first year of competitions, he stated, "My favorite part of competing is making a working group of not only countries from all over the globe, but meeting students from all over the globe and working towards comprehensive solutions on international issues๐". Moving into this year, he is looking forward to learning more, growing as a delegate, and helping others grow too!
When we asked Peter why new students should join Model UN, he responded with, "Joining Model UN was the best decision I made during my first year at UW Oshkosh. I gained a family and network of people here in Oshkosh, learned so many new things, and made huge strides in my classwork through study and preparation skills. I would recommend joining it to anyone looking to meet people, learn more, and improve their classwork๐๐โ๏ธ". If you want to chat with Peter, visit him in his office in Sage 4449!
Don't forget our Informational Meeting is this week Thursday at 630PM in Sage Hall 3232! If you have further questions email [email protected]!๐คฉ

MEET THE 2019-2020 EXECUTIVE BOARD๐บ๐ณ: Next up we have our Secretary Coleman Korb! Coleman is a Junior pursuing majors in UWO Political Science with a Law and Policy Minor and the UW Oshkosh International Studies Program with a UWO Global Scholar Certificate.
As Secretary and head of recruitment, Coleman is looking forward to the new activities and initiatives that the executive board has planned for the year. This year in particular, he is excited to put some of our new activities into practice, so that the team can continue go into competitions strong in its 36th year! With two years on the team under his belt, Coleman had the most enjoyment playing Germany ๐ฉ๐ช at the Midwest Model United Nations competition this past year. Coleman stated, "Germany was a fun perspective to work from, with an ambitious set of goals for the future". His favorite topic researched in Model UN so far has been the unsustainable burden of debt ๐ต. Coleman explained, "Debt is a problem which not only unfairly affects developing countries, but also threatens the structural integrity of the global financial system". As a student, Coleman attributes Model UN to connecting him with Professors and opportunities in the field, which will better prepare him after graduation. In his personal life, Coleman has made friends from all Model UN generations, and is very thankful that this team has become such close friends and family.
Coleman encourages all students to consider joining Model UN, even just to give it a chance. There are so many features to the team and it is hard to explain them all if you are not a part of it. So just come! If you want to chat with Coleman about Model UN, you can find him in his office in Sage, 4449!๐
MEET THE 2019-2020 EXECUTIVE BOARD๐บ๐ณ: First up we have our Oshkosh Student Association Representative Jon Shanks! Jon is a Senior pursuing a major in UWO Political Science.
With one year on the team under his belt, Jon ran for the executive board because he wants to contribute more to the team, make a difference, and continue our 35 year streak of excellence! Last year Jon researched plastic and microplastic litter in the ocean ๐ ๐ข, he said, "I learned so much about the topic that I never expected to be as interested in as I was, it has become my favorite topic I have researched in Model UN this far!". This past year Jon enjoyed the feeling of winning in NYC for the 35th consecutive year the most ๐. Jon stated, "The time we spent with the team after we learned we had won was surreal, just getting to be in NYC after working towards this moment the entire year was incredible, and to share the experience with all of my teammates, it was a moment I will never forget".
Moving into this year, Jon is encouraging students to join Model UN, "You'll make great friends and make memories that you will have your whole life! You'll grow as a person and develop skills that will allow you to both casually and professionally use on a daily basis. You will also learn about subjects that you didn't know you loved". If you want to chat with Jon about Model UN, you can find him in his office in Sage, 4449! ๐
Our team member Tannyr Locy!!!! At our brat fry today!!!!
Make sure to go say hi and support our team โค๏ธ
โWe are members of the UW Oshkosh Model United Nations. We are the only academic club that represents the University, and our team has won the top awards for 35 years. We simulate what the U.N does. In conferences, we are split into different groups and discuss certain humanitarian issues or international politics. I was a social delegate in (a group) that discussed combatting human trafficking and promoting the rights of persons with disabitlites. Everyone should care about whatโs happening on the international and global stage. There are people suffering all across the world that deserve the same privileges and offerings that we have here in America. Countries that are underdeveloped should be able to be economically stable. These issues affect everyone - like human trafficking, itโs not just the under-developed or developing world, it affects First World countries as well. If the world is doing bad economically, no one is doing good economically.โ
(Note from Humans of Oshkosh: We are fans of young people who see the world from multiple perspectives. These four students, all sophomores at UWO, are cooking brats and burgers outside of Festival Foods, 2415 Westowne Ave, in Oshkosh, Wis., until 5 p.m. Sept. 8, 2019. They are raising money to cover the travel costs to their conferences. For more information about this top-ranked team, see https://uwosh.edu/today/73720/model-un-titans-are-champions-again/)

WAKE UP PEOPLE! We are SO proud to announce that Year 35 for UW-Oshkosh Model UN exceeded expectations while representing Gabon & Barbados at the 2019 National Model UN Competition in New York. We walked away with not only two Outstanding Delegation Awards, but also with Outstanding Delegate Awards (peer voted) in eight of our thirteen opportunities to do so, as well as our team being recognized for having Outstanding Position Papers.
We cannot thank each and every person who has supported us in the year enough. This year started off with a hard loss of Dr. Grieb, and we are beyond proud to carry on his legacy of excellence this year, and for many more to come. Tracy Hoffmann Slagter, our new Model UN Advisor, jumped head first into supporting our team and learning the tradition of excellence, and how it must be upheld. We cannot thank her enough for sticking by our side, her positive energy at the competition, and her willingness to not only advocate for our team, but also play a huge role in leading our team to the successes we had this year. Our executive board worked so hard to instill not only institutional knowledge, but to also improve the team's skillset immensely compared to last year. We are so proud of our experienced members, as well as our new members, as we move forward in carrying on the tradition of excellence.
