NaNoWriMo or National Novel Writing Month is coming in November. For all authors or authors-to-be, this is a great community jump start to your writing project.
I started writing my novel for NaNoWriMo in 2018. Then stopped as life got busy. I restarted in 2020 and now I am in the process of editing Book 1 with about 150,000 words and have written parts of Book 2, Book 3, and a Prequel.
To get started, I'm including my favorite tools to help you.
Plottr.com - map out your plot with or without pre-loaded templates of storytelling structures
Scrivner - word processing program (without a monthly subscription fee!) allows you to create and move chapters and scenes easily (Highly Recommended)
Master Writer - thesaurus on steroids
Pro Writing Aid - copy-editing software checking style, grammar, overused words, cliches, repeats, sentence lengths, and more
Fictionary - story editing software using AI to analyze your manuscript
Reedsy - lots of great, free articles and videos on writing
Jericho Writers - great writing resources including free and paid courses
What Is NaNoWriMo? You might have heard about National Novel Writing Month AKA NaNoWriMo. But what is it, really? And how can writers get involved?
Most of what I write still is crap. Sometimes I have a breakthrough.

We ate in silence. Every so often I would look over at his plate marveling in how fast and how much he could eat.
“I would say, ‘Don’t they ever feed you around here?’ But you’re the boss and I saw you eat lunch.”
He swallowed his bite, washing it down with a drink. “I actually keep a plate in the kitchen and take bites between trips. I don’t like to eat in front of customers.”
“So why did you break your rule?”
“There was a damsel in distress that I needed to rescue.” His smirk was all bad boy but there was something off from his flirting.
“Thanks. But this damsel rescues herself.”
I started this story back in 2018 with the idea that a Global Pandemic caused by a virus hit the world. They story was never about the virus or the affects, but on a group of young people who start a new community as a result of the virus. After living through quarantine, doing all the activities that most of you have probably done - binging streaming services, daydrinking, and fixing up the house, I decided to spend my free time finishing the story....
