August has been a busy month! I have officially opened my new office in Chambersburg, PA and I am seeing clients in person and online. It's a cozy space where you can feel safe and comfortable being yourself. My office is across from the high school so easy commute for students who want to do therapy after school. There is also free parking on premise! Call or email me if you would like to set up an appointment. 717 660 8391 [email protected] www.nollcounseling.com

Everyone is different! Each individual is affected by trauma differently so that means that your treatment should also be individualized. The road that you take to reach your goal has to be changed and improved as you work through your trauma. For some people EMDR works, but for others CBT works. Find the process that works best for you no matter if that includes a therapist, a vacation, church, etc!

Sneak peak into my new office! My furniture is starting to arrive so hopefully will be having in person sessions next week. I know how much anxiety starting somethings new can be, but remember that great things await if you are able to get through the anxiety of change.

Anxiety can be tricky at times to notice especially in children and teens because it can manifest as physical symptoms. Having a stomach ache everyday before school could be a sign that you are anxious about going to school or having neck pain before a big test can be a sign of test anxiety. If you have ruled out medical reasons for your physical pain then check in with yourself or a therapist to see if maybe you are struggling with anxiety. Naming what you are feeling is the hardest part because after that you can learn how to cope with your anxiety.

Do you ever feel paralyzed when making decisions? Anxiety and trauma can cause us to have a hard time making decisions. Your brain is constantly overthinking every decision you are making because it is anxious about the outcome. Will something bad happen to you, will others judge, or maybe is there a better decision that you could have made. CBT is a great therapy that can help with making decisions easier.

Anxiety is a pesky part of life! Anxiety has a purpose by letting you know that something might be wrong, but anxiety that is on overdrive is just a nuisance because it affects your daily life. Don't let anxiety stop you from starting something new or spending time with people. It is possible to reduce your anxiety to a manageable level so you can start ENJOYING LIFE AGAIN!

It's been a busy month of July! I have officially moved to Chambersburg, PA so keep an eye out for some changes in the next couple of months. I will be revealing my new office location and talking about my plans for a teen support group.

Happy Chocolate Day! I love chocolate and it is one of my guilty pleasures. While I was in college, I had the chance to collaborate with a professor on a research study about the effects of chocolate. The results showed that eating chocolate mindfully can increase happiness so I don't feel as guilty eating ir now. I hope you enjoy it too! http://bit.ly/TheSweetLife2

LIFE IS HARD! Adding spontaneity can help reduce tension and anxiety. We can only control some things in our lives such as how we treat others, the work we do, etc. We cannot control others or changes in schedules so spontaneity reminds us that good things can happen in life when we least expect it.

YOU CAN OVERCOME YOUR TRAUMA! Trauma can change how you see the world as you see it as dangerous. You have nightmares, you have trouble trusting people, you get scared easily if you hear loud sounds, or just don't feel safe. Your life can get better and you can overcome this fear. I have seen first hand how EMDR has helped clients feel comfortable leaving their house again and feel safe.

You have the power to make someone's day better! I went through a drive through with my husband and ordered some coffee and breakfast from a local coffee shop. When we finished our order and went to pick it up the server told us that we had been the first people that day that had been nice to him since he started his shift at 6am. We got a free cinnamon roll from the server for making his day better. You never know how your words can affect others so remember that if someone is rude to you then respond with a kind word and they might return the favor with kind words.

Do you sometimes get too focused on what needs to get done? I understand that we all have obligations, which forces us to be busy all the time. We feel that we have no time for ourselves or for what makes us happy; however, when we only focus on our to-do list then that can cause anxiety to get worse. Doing things that make you happy can help reduce some of your anxiety because you are adding more positivity to your life.

What self-care activity are you doing today? Self-care can be spontaneous or planned! Today I decided to do a spontaneous self-care activity by going to the dog park with my pups and listening to music. Walking through nature and seeing my pups run around happy helps brings things into perspective.

Our emotions can have a lot of power over us especially when we do not know what we are feeling. Being able to specifically say I am feeling anxious, sad, angry, or happy allows us to have the power over the emotion. Knowing what you are feeling makes it easier to know how to overcome or process the feeling. You are strong and you will get through this!

Traumatic events can have long lasting effects, but we can work through it.

Our emotional growth can be stunted after a traumatic event. What does that mean? It means that if something happened to you at the age of 9 then you can get stuck at that age emotionally. This can explain why sometimes you can be with a friend or loved one and your response does not match the situation such as yelling at them or crying for breaking a cup. Why do you yell or cry when your or someone breaks a cup? Maybe as a child you learned that every time you broke a cup then your parents would yell at you or hit you so as a response you learned to cry or yell back. Now as an adult you know that your response does not make sense, but your are not able to stop yourself. Working through the traumatic event can help rewire your brain so you can respond more calmly, instead of as that 9 year old.
An experienced therapist can help you with restarting your emotional growth by using EMDR, CBT, and many other therapy modalities.

How can you reduce the power of your thoughts? It's difficult to ignore them, but practicing letting them go can be a huge help towards reducing anxiety, worry, and overthinking. Every time that I start to worry or overthink I remind myself that those thoughts do not have the power to control me or hurt me. The best way that I let go of my thoughts is through meditation, music, TV (anything that makes me smile), or spending time with friends/family.

I feel more invigorated and excited about the week when I start off on a good note by going to my favorite coffee shop. Things will still get hectic and stressful during the week, but the memory gives me a smile every time. What can you do to make your week better?

Ever thought about how powerful music can be to help you destress? Music has long lasting effects both positive and negative. I have a great memory of Taylor Swift's 2nd album coming out so I always feel happy when I hear Love Story. My memory includes a high school football captain telling everyone in class about his excitement of his plan to buy the album after school. Sabrina Noll, LPC Bilingual Counselor

My name is Sabrina Noll and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Kansas. I enjoy and specialize in working with teens and adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions. A teen finding their identity is about learning who they are and who they want to become. Adults are the ones that have to carry all of the responsibility in life as they have to work and pay bills. However your ability to live your life can be disrupted when you are dealing with difficult situations. As a counselor I am here to help you overcome these trying times.

I have provided professional counseling services in several settings including in-home, school based, and community agencies. I see counseling as a way of working closely with a confidential person that you trust to help you work through difficult and happy times in life. Coming to counseling can be a very difficult decision as you do not know the person you will be working with or how the process works. I believe that the best way to help you find the best counselor is by calling and having a chance to talk to you. I will listen to you over a free phone consultation to help you find out if we are a good fit and if we are not a good fit, I will help you find someone that works better for you. Counseling is about you so if that means helping you find the right counselor then I am happy to work with you on that. I look forward to hearing from you!
