A sonohysterogram is a procedure that uses ultrasound to examine the inside of the uterus. It involves injecting a small amount of fluid into the uterus while capturing images with an ultrasound probe. This procedure is commonly used to diagnose and evaluate conditions such as uterine fibroids, polyps, infertility, repeated miscarriages, and abnormal bleeding or pelvic exam. By providing detailed images of the uterine lining, a sonohysterogram helps us identify any abnormalities and plan appropriate treatment. It is a safe and effective way to assess the health of the uterus without the need for invasive surgery, which is always our default position.

Wishing you and your family a very happy Easter from all of us at Women's Healthcare Group.
Passion and enthusiasm for the Kansas City Chiefs runs strong at the Women's Healthcare Group. Our staff wore red and gold t-shirts with the Chiefs logo and decorated their offices with Chief's posters and pennants in support of Sunday's Super Bowl game. In keeping with her annual tradition, Dr. Bauer Holthus again attended the game and sent us a few photos of her adventures. We are so proud of our home town team! Congratulations Chiefs!
LARC is Long-Acting Reversible Contraception. The IUD (intrauterine device) and birth control implant are examples. Both are highly effective in preventing pregnancy, last several years, are easy to use, and can be stopped at any time if desiring to get pregnant. Women who just delivered a baby may wish to use LARC because it is possible to get pregnant even before periods resume. The IUD or implant can be inserted before leaving the hospital, if desired.

Over 25 million US adults experience some form of incontinence. Women are more than twice as likely as men to have it, and it is more common in women over 50. Two common types are stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is triggered by a cough, sneeze, or physical exercise. Urge urinary incontinence (UUI) is involuntary leakage accompanied by a sudden and strong urge to urinate. Either of these symptoms are uncomfortable and can be embarrassing. It may be time to talk to our OB/GYN specialists if the urge to urinate is interfering with lifestyle or intimacy with a partner. We can suggest behavioral changes or difference procedures such as nerve stimulation that help improve bladder control.

STDs are common, especially among young people. There were 26 million new s*xually transmitted infections in 2018 in the United States. About half of these infections are in people between the ages of 15 and 24.
Protect Yourself: Know the Common Teen STDs. STIs like chlamydia, gonorrhea, and HPV are unfortunately common among teens. Keep yourself safe and informed by practicing safe s*x and getting tested regularly.
