Had a client come in yesterday who had a pinched nerve and described the pain for the last 3 weeks as excruciating. He hadn’t been able to sleep due to the pain either. I asked him to upgrade to a 90 minute session and allow me to spot treat in certain areas using various modalities and tools to see if I could alleviate some of the pain. He already tried massage elsewhere, acupuncture, chiropractic, and was about to get an MRI. This morning, he contacted me to say he felt great and left this google review. Massage pro tip: Give your therapist an opportunity to have a conversation with your body.
Many times we get people who ask for extremely deep pressure just to then watch them wince and lock up like they are in pain. Then they ask for more pressure lol. Your body talks. It’s signaling a pain response. If it’s too much, your body pushes back to tell us to back off which is wise. If you allow them to back off and they spend a little more time in the area, they can soften the tissue and get deeper without killing you in the process. This is always why we suggest longer sessions with more time to work the tissue. So are you looking to show that you can take pain or are you looking for results from an effective session? It’s up to you.
