You might be familiar with our mascot, Buddy Bookworm, who attends various library events and appears on items like the Summer Reading Program medal that's awarded to children who complete the program. But did you know he got his start as a puppet?
In the late 1950s, Pinkie and Rod Jones created "The Buddy Bookworm Show" to promote literacy and the library's extensive offerings. It included skits and segments that often featured local students ... including library user Gayle Campbell, who appeared on the show during a trivia segment. “I won a book that I still have,” Campbell said. “It was published in 1958, so it was brand new when I received it. I remember that I really enjoyed reading it.”
Read the full Buddy Bookworm story in the May event guide, available at all TCCL locations and online at www.tulsalibrary.org/mylibrary.
