In 1926, radium was a miracle cure, Madame Curie was an international celebrity, and luminous watches the latest rage - until the girls who painted them began to fall ill with a mysterious disease. Inspired by a true story, Radium Girls traces the efforts of Grace Fryer, a dial painter, as she fights for her day in court. Her chief adversary is her former employer, Arthur Roeder, an idealistic man who cannot bring himself to believe that the same element that shrinks tumors could have anything to do with the terrifying rash of illnesses among his employees. As the case goes on, however, Grace finds herself battling not just with the U.S. Radium Corporation, but also with her own family and friends, who fear that her campaign for justice will backfire
Did you know that carving pumpkins was based on an ancient Irish Legend? All of the 9th graders at Jemicy read The Legend of Stingy Jack, also known as Jack of the Lantern. After they read the Irish folktale, they celebrated the ancient tradition by carving their pumpkins, then the pumpkins were put out to line the driveway. We shall see if Stingy Jack will haunt us this Halloween!
Of course, they also enjoyed dressing in creative costumes and playing Halloween-themed games in advisory. Happy Halloween, everyone!
Congrats to our Cross Country Seniors!
Happy 25th Anniversary to the eye-popping Great Halloween Lantern Parade & Festival! Our students put their unique spin on the anniversary theme. Did you know the official flower for the 25th anniversary is the iris? So of course, we portrayed another kind of iris! Everyone loved our creepy cool eyeballs and the students had a great time at this amazing event. Thank you Creative Alliance for giving us the opportunity to march alongside so many fabulous artists, musicians, and other creative souls. Happy Halloween!

Director of Middle School and creator of Paragraphology, Bridget Barley, is sharing the "bright way to write" in the exhibit hall AND is also a speaker at this years 75th International Dyslexia Association Conference in Dallas. Her presentation titled "Structured Expository Writing using Paragraphology" takes the abstract idea of writing and makes it tangible for all students--especially diverse learners. We are so grateful to have experts like Bridget as part of the Jemicy Community!
Middle School Clubs have a new twist with Upper School students joining in to lend a hand and mentor younger students. This week we dropped in on Volunteer Club which was making jewelry for charity, the National Junior Arts Society making eyeballs for the Lantern Parade, Crocheting Club, Dungeons and Dragons, and of course the ever popular Pickleball Club!

The goal is to have teachers, students, and parents all on the same page, working as a team. That’s why middle school students, meet with their advisors to go over their mid-trimester grades. These meetings are to empower students to be a driving force in their learning. Advisors go over areas of strength as well as areas for growth and are a springboard for next week’s parent/teacher conferences. Parents, make sure to ask your child for their progress reports this evening!

M Group is learning about pollinators, and lucky for us our neighbor has an incredible pollinator garden! Did you know that milkweed is critical for the monarch butterfly’s life cycle? Students also had time to explore a local wetland and stream because what’s a field trip without splashing in some water?
Congratulations to the 2024-2025 Upper School President and Vice President, Fredis and Shlomo! The campaign speeches in all the grades were impressive and we are looking forward to working with an exceptional student government this year!
Last night’s viewing of Harvey Hubbell’s film “Hopeville: How to Win the Reading Wars” for the community was the perfect culmination of 2 days of excellent information for our internal and external community. The best part was our students asking Harvey anything and everything about his documentary, his dyslexia, and how to get involved with the literacy movement. What a great way to recognize dyslexia awareness month!
Thank you, , for helping us shine a light on dyslexia and close the literacy gap for all! We are excited to share Harvey Hubbell’s documentary tonight at 7 PM at the Upper School!
