Bricktown Grooming

Bricktown on vacation! Alone and unafraid in the Oakland wilderness, I felt it wise to bring the Irish Brigade along for the ride. I’m in town for the Battle of the Bay between the Oakland Athletics and San Francisco Giants …can you guess who I’m rooting for today?

And, as always is the Brigade’s matching soap. Put that in a Spot Prints bowl with a Stirling badger brush and you have a lather that will take down any whisker. And that with the most consistently performing razor known to man? Can’t beat it.

And Barrett Fragrances Green Hills is an EXCELLENT take on Green Irish Tweed, the scent that inspired Irish Brigade. It may be foggy out here but I’m feeling fresher than ever!

Bricktown Vintage Day came early this week. The weather is warming up and I had 2 days of growth to mow down and feel cool at the same time.

Hack down longer hair? This aggressive as hell Gillette open comb is up. This thing must have been for some Special Forces or something. Probably the Dirty Dozen because this razor is on a mission. A huge thank you to Matt at Razor Emporium for helping me find this vintage shaving treasure!

So to cool me down I added A LOT of menthol to Joe’s sweet grapefruit shave soap. You can’t be in a bad mood after you smell this stuff. Joe’s seriously working some magic back east.

And whipping it up to absolute perfection is a custom bowl and brush from AKA with an AK7 knot. So perfect I almost didn’t want to shave with it. But I did because I’m a wet shaver and therefore awesome.

And the final piece to this cool and sweet happiness puzzle is Batch 214. Citrus and vanilla fading in to saffron, jasmine, and patchouli. What a way to end a long day.

BRICKTOWN! The Bazaar was up for today’s shave. A softer and sweeter scent with a bit or spice hidden deep was exactly what was called for. I made this aftershave to remind me of the few good things I encountered in the desert. Namely the bazaars that would pop up around our bases or camps. The smells of all different types of incense has stayed with me.

My brand new brush, a Rubberset 3 with a badger knot, effortlessly whipped up TOBS Coconut shave soap in to a lather thicker than a bowl of oatmeal. And the menthol drops have been a really nice way to freshen up my shaves lately.

My Gillette Slim came from Razor Emporium and has been revamped and nickel plated. What a beauty! It’s proven to be more aggressive than my fat boy so I have to remember that each time so I don’t get any irritation.

Overall a wonderful shave!

If you’re gonna shave, shave like a pirate!!! BRICKTOWN BABY! From my custom Navy Chief bowl and brush to my spike point straight like a dang marlinspike to Thomas Tew citrusy soap and closed with Barbary Pirates for some sweet sandalwood treasure. This whole shave made me want to buy a parrot REAL badly. But who has time for a needlessly expensive hobby, am I right?! I mean…for real…am I right? 😂😂😂

All new items for today’s shave except the knot. I should have gotten the Bison sooner. It’s exceptional. The fit and finish is top notch and it is makes an excellent daily driver. The color looks great and I’m really happy with it.

For all the soap sets I’ve gotten since getting in the hobby, I had yet to try a Bay Rum scent for whatever reason. I’ve remedied that minor problem with an order from The Razor Company to get two artisans take on the scent. I really enjoy Joe’s soap base and his bay rum scent is a little sweet and not too heavy, which is nice on a hot summer day. Phil’s splashes are great and I’ve seen him pair this soap with his No Quarter splash a few times, so it was an easy choice. I’m really liking both this morning.

Last but not least is this new brush from Aurora Grooming. Peter made a really unique shape here and I’m a fan of it. The knot isn’t new and I had it set a little too deep in its previous handle. A few millimeters can make a big difference and this feels much nicer now with a backbone more to my preference. Take care everyone and have a great day.

October 1943. The Seabees land on the beach during The Battle of Treasury Island. They’re immediately pinned down by enemy fire. Do they wait for the Marines to land? Hard pass. Do they take cover and cry? Hell naw. A Petty Officer of the 87th NCB mounts a damn D8 Bulldozer, blocks enemy fire with the friggin blade, and rolls over those schmucks to send them to their maker! My great-grandfather, Dan DeNoyelles was there as a Seabee.

Today I salute the most polarizing scent in all of Bricktown Grooming, Treasury Island. A simple mix of to***co flower and leather starts with the most realistic rawhide leather scent you’ll find. Then it folds in with a subtle but steady floral note. It was the beginning of my planned mix and I just stopped. It was SO unique that I had to stop there.

So, you love it or hate it. There’s no in between. Because of this I have stopped making more to send to retailers (SEE linktree ⬇️). So what you find out there is it!

Medicine Crow! First, the scent. This is truly classic with florals and grassy elements, anchored with sandalwood, creating a scent that is what the classiest of gentlemen would wear in true Americana. Transatlantic accents with pressed suits. Bogart, Gable, Cagney, Jimmy Stewart….this would be their choice.

The naming is my humble nod to a true American bad ass of that era. Joe Medicine Crow was a Native American soldier in WWII. This true warrior completed all 4 tasks required to become a Plains Indian War Chief, the last I might add, against the Nazi’s!

First shave in a week. Just got back from a week long camping trip with my son. MUCH needed!

And I needed something softer and lighter. Here comes The Bazaar! Calling on the bazaars I found in the Middle East, The Bazaar is floral, soothing, and with a bit of a woody note to settle the scents.

Then Joe’s Grapefruit shave soap was sweet and fruity. Paired so well. And the brush/straight razor combo scaled and honed by True Til Death Shaving is gorgeous! Those long hairs didn’t stand a chance!

BRICKTOWN FRIDAY! A sinus infection went around the family and finally made it to me. So what better to use than Medicine Crow? Truly a classic scent that would have been worn by the Greatest Generation. I didn’t pay homage on here for D-Day, so here’s my deepest and humblest nod.

Here’s to you, Joe Medicine Crow. Last of the Plains Native American War Chiefs. Passed all tests while fighting the Nazi’s in WWII.

Phil Decker and Bricktown Grooming, wow is all I can say! Got my “Medicine Crow” in today. That stuff should catch the attention of every single person you walk by. Absolutely amazing scent! If you don’t have this one everybody, I guess you’re SOL!🪒 💈

IT’S BRICKTOWN DAY! I’ve been feeling some type of way lately. So what better way to fix it than hosing myself down with some Carpenter’s Mate after a FINE shave?! Nothing makes you want to pull yourself up by your boot straps than a tough and manly air about you. I kinda want to build something using only hand tools or rough it in the woods with only what I can carry in my camelback and my dog by my side. But I’ll probably knock out early, since I’m always honest. It’s a good thought though. Maybe some more splash in the morning to keep this feeling going. The shave meet up soap is so 👏🏻 damn 👏🏻 fresh 👏🏻. Some lucky winner might get my extra tin with an order of Medicine Crow 😉. The Kopparkant shaves like a Cadillac sitting on air bags. If you don’t have one, be better than that.

Feeling fresh tonight! Razor Emporiums’s meet up soap performs beautifully. A woody scent with a touch of darker fruits is really nice. I paired it with my Karve (totally love the Wagner handle, btw) and my True Til Death brush. And then some Medicine Crow for the perfect ending. Woody, grassy, and a touch of florals was just right. Pipe Den fantastic. Sweet smooth to***co. If it were music, Barry White would use it to get laid.
is less Subtle and more stabby. Think co***ne and hookers, but high end hoes.
The Barbers razor with the low insert. It’s a little getting used to, but my blood stayed in my face. Its really smooth when you get the angle right. A little small to hold, but so is a 5/8, so not exactly fair because I have bear paws.
