Last week, Grimes and Higgins continued their work and collaboration along with Timothy Austin, Timothy Cheek, Matt DiSogra, David Plant, and Greg A. Wilcoxson in preparation for and teaching the SAE Course, Accessing and Interpreting Heavy Vehicle Event Data Recorders (SAE Course ID C1022) in Appleton, Wisconsin.

This class has become a benchmark in training of OEM and Tier 1 engineers, investigators, law enforcement officials, and regulatory folks on Heavy Vehicle Event Data Recorders.
This week, Wes Grimes and Greg A. Wilcoxson continue with teaching of the SAE Course, Advanced Applications of Heavy Vehicle EDR Data (SAE Course ID C1901).

Mecanica Scientific honors Lois Cooper, an amazing trailblazer! Through perseverance and passion, she became the first African-American woman to become a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in California, and be hired in the Engineering Department with the California State Divisions of Highways (Caltrans). During her career, she became a Project Manager and worked on several large projects such as the San Diego Freeway, the Long Beach Freeway, the I-105 Century Freeway, the San Gabriel River Freeway, and the Riverside Freeway.
We encourage our coworkers, colleagues, and friends to spend time this month honoring those who removed boundaries, encouraged others, and paved a path for future generations. # inclusiveness

Mecanica is proud to announce that retired Sgt. John Kolter has joined our Mecanica team and will be working out of our Elk Grove location. John joined Mecanica Scientific Services back in April 2022. John K. is not only the fourth person here named “John,” he has also become an integral part of our team. We are blown away with his expertise!

John comes to Mecanica with an impressive 27 years of experience with the California Highway Patrol (CHP), including several years in Road Patrol, Field Training Officer and Crash Review Officer. As an ACTAR accredited crash reconstructionist, John has spent the last 18 years of his career as a full-time member of the Central Division CHP Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) as an Investigator, with the last five years as a Sergeant/Team Leader. His research activities have included instrumented vehicle handling and performance tests, as well as research in automobile safety, including the technology of passenger and commercial vehicle EDR’s.

We are honored to work with such an easy-going, respectable, and hard-working individual!

Mecanica Scientific is proud to announce that as of earlier this year, Jonathan Balasa was elected as President of the Southwestern Association of Technical Accident Investigators (SATAI). Jon has dedicated his career to forensic engineering and highway accident reconstruction. For the last 23 years he has developed deep roots and many connections with fellow accident reconstructionist, law enforcement officers, and investigators throughout the southwest.
Jon is based out of Mecanica Scientific’s Mesa, Arizona office where he works with a team of specialized experts in the areas of accident reconstruction, vehicle dynamics, vehicle mechanical failure analysis, Event Data Recorder and telematics experts, biomechanics, forensic animations and simulations, and commercial vehicle operations specialists.
About the Southwestern Association of Traffic Accident Investigators (SATAI), SATAI was established as a non-profit corporation in 1982, the goal of SATAI is to encourage and promote the development of professional technical accident investigation and highway safety; promote research and development of programs leading to better technical accident investigations; and to promote the development and dissemination of new knowledge in the fields of traffic safety, accident investigation and reconstruction.
