Brent's Club members from the Reiter Family Youth Center celebrating all negative drug tests by going to Six Flags! Woohoo! 🎢
This Saturday, we hosted our annual Board Advance to strategize organizational needs, opportunities, and solutions for the coming year and beyond. We are tremendously grateful to have such strong, dedicated Board of Directors, CEO, and leadership staff.
Special thank you to the incredible teen member panel for their courage and insight!
We are definitely feeling this feel-good ! The new artwork and decor make our Club inside the Juvenile Justice Facility so beautiful, warm, inspirational, and full of positivity!
DID YOU KNOW? Our Club within the Ventura County Juvenile Justice Facility has been open since 2007, and was the first Club to be located inside a Juvenile facility in the state of California! Our goal is to give incarcerated youth a similar experience as the members of our other Clubhouses, including career prep, leadership development, and recreation.
Tour the Ventura County Juvenile Facility as it turns 20 Ventura County celebrates its juvenile facilities complex's milestone with event that includes tours.
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of longtime BGCOP Board Member, Ron Rowen. Our deepest condolences to Ron's wife, Judy, and his family during this difficult time.
Ron served on our Board of Directors as well as the Executive Board for over 15 years. He was very active in our committees, securing thousands of dollars in items each year for the silent auction and even starting the men’s event that raised over $25,000 for us each year.
He had such a big, dedicated heart for the kids and worked tirelessly to support our mission. We will miss Ron dearly.
What does KINDNESS look like to you? A loving home? Sharing snacks? Playing games together? This is what kindness looks like for one of our Reiter Family Youth Center members.
Supporting our members goes beyond the Club walls! A few staff & members from the Harriet H. Samuelsson Teen Center were cheering on our 2024 Youth of the Year, Jazmin, at her track meet at Channel Islands High School.
Last week, Kindness Ambassadors from the Harriet H. Samuelsson Teen Center created personalized get-well cards for our Kindness Director, Jennifer. What will you do this week to show ? 🌷
Shannon Riley of Ventura Pet Wellness & Dog Training Center speaking with our members to teach them how to be kind to animals (including demonstrating kind behavior with them), and treat animals with respect and compassion.
Our staff are so loved by our members! Former Port Hueneme Club staff, Miss Jacky, recently transferred to the Martin V. Smith Youth Center in Oxnard. A Port Hueneme club member, Kendra, missed spending time with Jacky so much, she tracked her down at MVS to give her an Easter basket she made for her.
Osvaldo Godina, Unit Director of the Port Hueneme Club, leading a Boys & Girls Clubs of America training to our site staff that covered High Yield Activities and Promoting Positive Behavior. We believe having high-quality staff leads to high-quality experiences for our members!
MVS Spring Day Camp members did some awesome work in the egg drop STEAM challenge! In small groups, they designed their own contraptions using a variety of materials to protect their egg from a tall height. Here is one group's that successfully kept their egg safe!
How do we stop bullying when we see it happening? Find out what some of our members have done. 💙
How will you this week? Last week, Port Hueneme teens spread kindness by giving free haircuts! They're also practicing being kind to their bodies by creating new smoothie recipes every day for snack 🍓
Our teens had an incredible experience yesterday at University of Southern California thanks to our amazing donor, David Flamer! They spent the afternoon marveling at the bustling event-filled lifestyle of a typical day on a university campus, plus enjoyed a thorough guided walking tour led by current undergraduate and graduate students and ate lunch in the buffet-style student cafeteria.
Port Hueneme members colored Be Kind rainbows while discussing what kindness is and how they can show kindness. This led them to want to create kindness crowns, and one kindness ambassador made a garden with their crown. A new member was really excited to take the kindness pledge for the first time and join in!
Another awesome Brent's Club celebration of all negative drug tests - Bowlero for bowling and arcade time. Way to go teens!
With being the theme of MVS Day Camp, members participated in Charms Class today! They created their own wands with some magic (and electricity). ✨
We are so excited!!! Only 25 more days until the 3rd Annual Kindness Carnival! 🎡
Some Easter fun over the weekend for our members at the Reiter Family Youth Center at the John C. Zarazoga Community Center!
What will YOU do to be kind this month? Here's what a few members of the Reiter Family Youth Center did to be kind last month: made pictures for their grandmas, teens were big buddies to younger members, delivered donuts to staff, played team-building games to practice supporting each other, and learned about their own feelings and emotions in order to have energy to be kind to others. Happy April!
A scavenger-egg-hunt for our 6-8 year olds at MVS! The golden egg, found by Hazel in this room, contained a clue to their next hunting destination. So much fun!!
Brent's Club members at the Facing Down Fentanyl: Oxnard Town Hall, hosted by COAST (Community Overdose Awareness Solutions Team) Ventura County! They took a training on administering naloxone, a lifesaving antidote to reverse opioid overdose, as well as listened to a panel of experts in the field - all while also enjoying fresh churros!
As part of the Sports Broadcasting Academy program at the Harriet H. Samuelsson Teen Center, Brent’s Club members are creating their very own Sports Center to highlight local high school sports! They are learning about on-camera sports reporting in addition to behind-the-scenes production!
There are still spaces available for any teens who are interested in joining the Sports Broadcasting Academy: please call HHS at (805) 483-1118 for more information.
So grateful to be part of the Wellness Fair at Frontier High School!
Joining the Boys & Girls Club means joining an environment that provides and promotes overall wellness by focusing on programming around arts, education, character and leadership development, and health and recreation.
Our members enjoying the SNAG (Starting New at Golf) Pilot Program! We are thrilled to partner with Recovery Shot, a local nonprofit creating accessibility to the many life-changing benefits of golf, to offer this four-week course, which introduces children ages 6-12 to the basics of the game taught by experienced golf professionals. ⛳️
Kindness Is Free Oxnard was so excited to participate in the Annual Somis School Carnival! We gifted all K-8 students with Kindness swag and encouraged them to perform random acts of kindness. Many fellow vendors and community members also visited the booth to take the pledge and join the movement.
Spring STEAM Day Camp is in full swing at our MVS and Port Hueneme Clubhouses! It's not too late to sign up - learn more in the last slide and by visiting https://www.bgcop.org/day-camps!
On the first day of Spring Day Camp, members participated in a transfiguration class, where they transformed their creativity into a variety of art mediums including scratch art, camouflage, and tessellations.
Art is a great component to learning and sharing kindness. Not only does it allow one to express their emotions, but it also improves self-concept, which helps us treat others better! The teens at the Port Hueneme Teen Center enjoyed their community paint day and created some awesome pieces. Let’s keep painting our world in kindness!
