Signs of pelvic floor dysfunction, part ✌️

We absolutely treat all of the above!

PROLAPSE- very common, and most women will experience some degree of prolapse, as the risk increases with each vaginal delivery. Our goal is to reduce these symptoms and help prevent progression long term!

VULVAR BURNING, ITCHING, IRRITATION- We can do ALOT of awesome education to help reduce risk of infection! When the infection is no longer present, sometimes our neurological system gets confused and tries to protect us by creating persistence of the same symptoms from the infection.

Our goal is to retrain the brain and body to not see this area as a threat, and it is ABSOLUTELY treatable!

EXCESSIVE DOMING- we can teach you how to properly use your core and pressure system so that when there IS doming or pressure, your body knows how to balance it!

CONSTIPATION- constipation or straining is never normal! Sometimes, it can be your pelvic floor causing the problem, and even if this isn’t your main concern, this is something we need to address to prevent pressure or dysfunction to the rest of the pelvic floor!

What questions do you have about pelvic floor dysfunction?

08/06/2024

What are some symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction?

A lot of times, we are put in this little box that all we do is prescribe kegels.

Pelvic floor therapy is SO much more than that! While yes, we can treat strength dysfunction of the pelvic floor muscles, we also look at the system with a biopsychosocial approach!

What are your habits? What are your stress levels like? What does your home life and activity level look like? We then use those tools to integrate the system!

We can treat chronic pain, urgency/frequency, core weakness, scar tissue, tailbone pain, p***c bone pain, SIJ pain, pain during pregnancy, pregnancy preparation, and much more!

These 4 are just a FEW symptoms that we treat! What things did you learn after coming to pelvic floor therapy?

We’ll consider this part 1 and be back for 4 more symptoms that we treat frequently!

Pelvic pain is frustrating. It has been poorly understood for years, being dismissed by an array of providers without answers. When patients come see us with pelvic pain, they are often told the following:

-Drink wine, that will help
-It is in your head
-Your pain isn’t real or valid
-There is nothing that can be done

While these responses can be frustrating, the good news is that there CAN be help for your pelvic pain!

So what does pelvic pain look like? Pelvic pain can be the following:

-Painful vaginal insertion (tampon, with s*x, insertion, etc)
-Vaginismus (inability to insert anything vaginally)
-Tailbone pain
-P***c bone pain (SPD- especially during pregnancy!)
-SIJ, back pain, or hip pain
-Pain to the v***a (vulvodynia)
-Vaginal dryness
-Vaginal itching
-Frequent UTI-like symptoms without bacterial cause
-Re**al pain (proctalgia fugax)
-Pain from scar tissue (from vaginal delivery or cesarean section)
-Pain with climax
-Chronic pelvic pain with sitting, activities, or at rest
-Bladder pain
-Pain due to endometriosis, PCOS or cycle dysfunction

My cup is falling out…. Now what?!

Well, if this is the case, you’re probably not smiling like me in this picture 🤣

Some quick tips if your cup is falling out:
1. Use l**e to insert! My favorite is coconut oil! also has a water based l**e with clean ingredients that works perfect!
2. Readjust positioning/fold used to insert cup- make sure you sit on the toilet in a relaxed position. helps for this!
3. Try a different size! Take the size quiz at website. Just because you have had a baby does NOT mean you need the largest cup!
4. Trim your stem- the stem poking out can make you feel like the cup is falling
5. Try a disc! A disc does not use the same mechanism for insertion, therefore may help if you have prolapse as the reason your cup is pushing out

Still having trouble? Your in luck if you use Pixie Cup because they have the best customer service in America. 🙌🫶

Cups and discs are a learning curve, but SO worth the initial struggle! I am SO happy to be free of tampons for life, and cups/discs have reduced my cramping SIGNIFICANTLY!

We can also teach you tips and help with the pelvic floor strength and length side of things in therapy!

Have these tips helped you? Let us know! ⬇️

If you are waiting until September to be seen for pelvic floor therapy- don’t! We are always accepting new clients at The 417 Female!

We provide videos for clients and hands on, 1:1 60-minute sessions.

We are cash based so that we do not have to worry about the units or productivity of billing. You have our full attention for the entirety of the session!

We will provide you a super bill if you would like to try to submit to insurance for out-of-network reimbursement.

If you have health sharing, therapy is typically covered very well!

Our number 1 suggestion when waiting to see an insurance-based provider is to check with your insurance to make sure your therapy will be covered!

Although your plan may say “60 visits” these may still be charged toward your deductible.

Let us know if you have any questions! We look forward to serving you!

To schedule, call/text 417-414-0782 or go to www.the417female.com to book!

Let’s answer these top google search questions!

First of all, what is pelvic floor therapy?

-Pelvic floor [physical or occupational] therapy is physical or occupational therapy provided by a licensed physical or occupational therapist, who also has specialized training in the pelvic floor.

I highly recommend seeing a pelvic floor therapist who is able to treat the pelvic floor internally! We learn SO much from this exam, but your therapist must have proper training in order to implement this level of care!

For physical therapists specifically- we have gone to school for 7 years to receive our doctor of physical therapy prior to being able to treat patients! From there, we can choose to specialize or work in general care settings.

Yep, we could treat your knee or shoulder too!

Pelvic floor therapy is rehabilitation focused on the rehab of your pelvic floor. Duh Ali. We treat, but not limited to:
-urinary or bowel incontinence (leaking)
-constipation
-pelvic organ prolapse (or heaviness in the PFM)
-perineal or abdominal scar tissue
-tearing with vaginal delivery
-DRA (diastases re**us or 6 pack ab separation)
-core weakness
-urinary urgency/frequency
-nighttime urination difficulty
-urinary retention (trouble peeing)
-pelvic pain (with insertion or chronic pain)
-fertility troubles
-SIJ, tailbone, hip, p***c bone pain, low back pain related to any of the above
-preparation for pregnancy and postpartum
-WELLNESS!
+ so much more!

A great pelvic floor therapist will be orthopedically trained but also aware of the neurological system, take a bio psychosocial approach, and recognize the impact of psychology/sociology on the pelvic floor (my friend calls this pelvicology- love!)

Phew! That took up the caption space. Stay tuned for the next post in the series about question #2- What happens during pelvic floor therapy?

Photos from The 417 Female's post 06/03/2024

What does a visit to The 417 Female look like?

First off, we wanted a space that was warm, inviting, and cozy! Rush getting out of the house? Sit down for a minute, calm your nervous system, and get a snack :)

The bathroom is the 2nd door on the right!

We will invite you into the room and sit down and chat to get to know you.

After that, we give lots of education on the pelvic floor and what could potentially be going on! We want you to feel connected to your body!

After that if you are comfortable, we will do an internal/external exam in order to assess your body and muscles.

Then, we tailor a program to YOU to have you start working on!

Our system, is amazing, because we are able to provide you videos of exactly what we went over!

What was your first pelvic floor session like?

✨ PATIENT SUCCESS STORY ✨

I have a client/patient who I referred to about 6-7 months ago to assist with normalizing cycles and collaborate to help with her concerns of pelvic floor dysfunction.

Since she began menstruation in adolescence, her cycles were no shorter than 60-90 days. She said she does not remember a time when they were ever less than this.

Through collaborative care, she and Kinsey came up with a plan to empower her to know more about her body and optimizing her hormones.

Both plans of care include lots of stress, mental/emotional work as well, along with the patient’s therapist, to help decrease systemic cortisol.

In conjunction with these emotional/social changes, dietary and lifestyle changes, we also implement a fertility protocol in each session in order to help bring blood flow and mobility to the reproductive organs, lymph and tissues.

After 6-7 months of this care, for the FIRST TIME in this patient’s life, she had a 34 DAY CYCLE!!!!!

You may see 6-7 months and gasp, but if you think of a LIFETIME of cycles at this duration, this is a significant win!

We are SO PROUD of her commitment to herself, her body and goal of optimizing her cycles for her overall health and well being, and future personal goals.

We would love to collaborate with you on this journey, too!

-Patient gave permission to share this story on social media ❤️

We have a new team member!

We are so excited to welcome Diana Trickey to our team as our Plan of Care Coordinator!

Diana and Ali go way back, well because she is Ali’s mom! Diana will be a virtual admin for The 417 Female from the St. Louis area, where Ali grew up!

Diana is a graduate of SIUE with a BS in Business Administration with Area of Specialization in Management Information Sciences. Diana started her career at Southwestern Bell and eventually transitioned to a successful consultant role at Microsoft, until she decided to stay home with her 3 girls.

Diana picked up a love for tennis when her oldest daughter was in high school, which is when she began to play and officiate tennis.

In her spare time she loves to officiate collegiate tennis, spend time fishing with her husband, listening to historical audiobooks, and spending time with her kids and grandkids.

Fun fact about Diana: Ali is her favorite child!!! Just kidding (Ali wrote this 🤣) she loves us all the same 🥰
