Have you heard of deflection?

Police deflection programs aim to reduce crime and substance use through non-arrest pathways connecting individuals to treatment options. Instead of traditional police intervention and criminal justice involvement, deflection relies on law enforcement as the referral source to community-based drug treatment and mental health services before a person is in crisis. Law enforcement officers use deflection to open up access to treatment programs that were not previously attainable.

National Deflection Week is an opportunity for you to show-off the great work you and your department are doing via social media and in-person events in your community. It is also a chance to spread the word about a nationwide policing
