Deputy Coroner James Scott and Coroner Amanda Melton participated in the triennial mock airport disaster exercise on Saturday. This training is designed to prepare first responders, hospitals, and support staff in the event of an airplane incident. Upon arrival it was determined that the pilot and co-pilot had died in the crash. Others had been transported off-site for medical attention. The fire had been extinguished before our arrival. This was a good opportunity to test communication, radio channels, necessary equipment, resources, and general incident command. Overall, all agencies were well-prepared and equipped. We are thankful for these opportunities to train and plan.

Subject: burial of unclaimed urns at Wilmington Cemetery

The McCracken County Coroner’s Office, over the course of several years, has been the guardian of the cremated remains of over thirty unclaimed citizens. A memorial service will be held to recognize those citizens. The public is invited to join us at Wilmington
Cemetery (5020 Wilmington Road, West Paducah, KY 42086) on Wednesday, May 8th beginning at 10am. Representatives from several faiths, veteran agencies, local funeral homes, and area officials will participate by paying their respects.

The urns will have been previously buried in a newly developed memorial section of Wilmington Cemetery, which is owned by McCracken County Fiscal Court and overseen by the coroner. Several local businesses, funeral homes, and various departments within McCracken County and Paducah City government are assisting with this service.

Through Kentucky Revised Statute, an authorizing agent (coroner) may in good faith establish an appropriate manner of disposition for cremated remains that have been unclaimed for a period of at least two years or more.

Please see a complete listing below. If you have further questions or feel you may be entitled to take possession, please call the office at 270) 444-4732, option 3.
